Butt the back of the bottle said it was an ale. An ALE. Now I confused. The front said lager. Which is it? Regardless, medium easy malt sweetness no real bitterness but put together well overall. jimmyh221 (157), Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 27, 2006 The appearance was very dark in color. The head was off white and diminishing. The beer had a unique aftertaste that I did not care much for. jefcon (1007), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 26, 2006 Gentle sweetgrass aromas and some hopcit. There’s also a bready freshness to the yeast and an identifiable malt presence. The beer is copper-colored with an unremarkable head. Bitter bite of rather plain hops and a nice amount of alcohol, followed by an earthy, kind of dry alcohol finish. Some burnt caramel... not much else to signify the flavor profile. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Pours deep garnet with a small off-white head. Excellent aroma: toffee, caramel, almonds, dark fruit, and alcohol. The alcohol adds to the experience this time. In the flavor, however, the alcohol detracts. It hit me up front, and after a second faded into the background of a decent sweet malt and chocolate flavor. Good finish, with a hint of lactose. It feels like the beer melts in the mouth. If not for the initial smack of alcohol, this would be an excellent example of the style. As it stands, it’s only really good. piscator34 (1132), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 9, 2006 Amber in colour with medium carbonation. Huge and heady red-wine aroma, with notes of caramel. More caramel and red wine acidity in the mouth, which eventually gives way to some bready and nutty notes. Heavy on the palate, without being cloying. Not my favorite style, but this sample was pretty good. Thanks rudge75. ratman197 (3254), Arvada, Colorado, USA

Aromas of carmel, toffee, ahint of chocolate and some nuttiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, burnt carmel, nuts, and a hint of chocolate with a smooth, lingering semisweet finish. Kevster (229), Bradenton, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2006 12 oz bottle: Pours a dark cherry brown with a light brown head. Malty aroma is caramel and brown sugar. Initial flavor is fruity and caramel that finishes with a mild creamy bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden allowing a smooth experience. Sherry nose with some chocolate. Dark red-brown. Feeble label. Tangy with an alcohol bittering, toasty, green fruits, chocolate. Medium mouth, lingering alcohol with some astringency in the finish. Some muskiness and sulphur in the malting.
