Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Tasted 9/30 @Brewery, GABF weekend. Reddish-brown hue. Caramel nose. Fruity and yeasty flavor. High alcohol. Caramel, chocolate and raspberries in the flavor. Good flavor and nice bite.

Draft, Great Decatur Beerfest. Ruddy brown pour. Sweet malty aroma, almost sugary sweet. More sweet caramel malty flavors, and some toastiness too. Not too bad, but maybe a bit too sweet for me for a doppelbock.

Reddish brown with virtually no head. Aromas of sweet toasted malt and a little rum soaked fruitcake. Flavors of sweet toffee malts and mincemeat pie. Very little balancing bitterness. Alcohol not very noticeable in mouth, bun can be felt on the way down. Pretty easy drinking for an 8.2 ABV beer. Better than expected.

Deep amber-brown. Smooth and thickish mouthfeel; becomes milkier as it warms. Notes of maple, molasses, caramel, and toasted bread. Moderately grassy bitterness, but not quite enough for the sweetness. Fruity alcohol. Not bad, but a little too sweet for me.

on tap-pours a thin white head. Dark red color. Aroma is grain, sugary sweet. Taste is sweet, roasty malt, alcohol. Good, but not my style.

Bottle - not a lot of aroma, but what is there is very malty. An opaque medium brown body and a beige head. A lot of flavors going on here, but I’m having a bit of a hard time pinpointing them. I read some other ratings to look for help. I do get some of the dark fruits and it is very fry in the finish. Slight alcohol burn is present. Not a huge fan of this one.
