Sweet, malty, and alcoholic. Surprised to find this bottle at the Saucer here. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 31, 2005 Poured the color of mud. Aroma is quite earthy (dirt). Syrupy mouthfeel and taste, but a sour finish ruins it. Too much tang. NobleSquirrel (1120), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 13, 2005 I’m not a big fan of this beer. I have to admit that bock beers are not my preferred style but this one is even more of a turn off than usual. There’s some type of unbalanced sweet flavor that I can’t put my finger on that just takes away the enjoyment of the beer. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 10, 2005 poured from a bottle. dark reddish brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet with a hint of alcohol. Flavor has lots of malt with a hint of vanilla and maple syrup and way too much alcohol coming through. Quaffable. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 29, 2005 My common complaint with American made dopplebocks is that they’re not a lager or lack enough malt character. Well, this one is WAY too sweet for me and the alcohol comes screaming through. Sigh. Indy (87), Hopkins, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2005 Thin astgringent head. Bright orange/red, almost like a sunset....simply beautiful appearance. I can smell caramel, and something like berries...it smells sweet.
Very interesting, complex flavors. Starts sweet and slightly watery, finishes crisp and woody. This is one of the best Doppelbocks I’ve had since I had a Salvator. It doesn’t eclipse Paulaner’s masterpiece, but it’s definitely worth a try.
I recommend it.
