Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Traditional golden brown in color. Head is frothy, about 1/2" thick. Consistency of beer appears solid. Very nice in appearance. Aroma is characterized by caramel malts jumping out of the glass, with some other discernable scents of roasted and chocolate malts, coupled with wafts of alcohol to enrich the smell. Taste is predominantly caramel malts. Apples, prunes and what seems to be pure vanilla extract contribute in flavor to form a buttery cocoa concoction. Notable elements of creaminess and smoothness hint at an Irish cream liquor.

In the beginning, the caramel malts and alcohol poke through more forcefully on several occasions, but they begin to fade as the taste transitions towards a more watery slickness that lacks that certain "zip" that I look for in a doppelbock. Warming alcohol presence at the tip of the throat’s latch, which then gradually recedes. Long story short - a decent interpretation and better than expected, but not as lively as I’d like it to be. Missing a certain spark, but I have no remorse from having had this butthead.

Caramel and malty aroma.. tan head on a deep chocolate body. Tasty almost toffee and caramel flavor with not a whole bunch of carbonation. I love a good bock. This seemed like more of a bock than a double bock and who can complain about a name like butthead. I liked it and will buy again. Tasty brew!

This comes across more like a bock than a doppelbock, and I was surprised to see it’s got 8.2% ABV. It poured a clear, light brown color with reddish highlights, had decent carbonation, but retained little of its slight white head. The aroma is sweet and malty with strong roasted notes and an underlying scent of milk chocolate. Medium-bodied, this had more roasted flavorings than the sweet caramel and toffee that I was expecting. It’s got an abrupt, slightly sweet finish.

Poured a dark golden brown color. Malty aroma, caramel, fruity and sweet. Flavors of sweet malt, dark fruit, caramel, and alcohol shows its face. Medium bodied and warming in the throat.

A dark amber beer with a red gleam and a fast disappearing tan head. Malt and dark fruit in the aroma along with sweet chocolate and caramel notes and a warming alcohol tone. Tart fruity and malty flavor with notes of toffee. Sharp and rather alcoholic and not very balanced.

Thanks to MIBRomeo for sharing this one. The appearance was a nice red with an offwhite head. It was fast-dissapating and frothy. Slow bubbling. The aroma was of Kiwi and Caramel. The palate is a light-medium body that is acidic. The flavor was of strawberries, roasted malt, and caramel.

pours a copper color w/ a thin quickly dissapating white head. smells of sweet maple syrup fruit that I can’t identify and maybe some carmely malts. palate is sweet w/ good carbonation but a fairly light body. the flavor is hints of fruitiness (berries maybe) w/ a backing of carmel, a light flavor but pretty good. Overall a decent beer but nothing special

Pours a dark amber with a thin tan head. Lots of bubbles on the side of the glass. Bready aroma of sweat socks. Mayeb a hint of caramel. The taste is cloying and sweet with honey and maple. Some deep roasted malts in the aftertaste. Sticky and thick mouthfeel.
