Commercial Description:
This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops. 1997 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Bottle: Pours a dark amber color with a thin off white head. Dark fruit, molasses and toasted malt aroma. Medium-heavy body with very mild carbonation. Caramel and brown sugar sweetness in the initial flavor gives way to a dark fruit and raisin taste. Some alcohol warmth in the finish. Won’t knock your socks off but this isn’t bad at all.

It taste like a lemon beer. No head. A good name, but not a good beer to back up the name. Its showing up in the south now... avoid it.

Appearance= lifeless dirty-dense brown with little carbonation or effervescence, almost no head or lacing. Aroma= Scent was modest until it sat for about 5 minutes and then smelled like Old English furniture polish, probably the fruity scents coming through with the hops combined. Flavor= Modest taste, nothing that impresses me up-front. Maybe some caramel and burnt molasses, but a bit on the sweet-saccharin side for my tastes. Palate= A bit too fruity-sweet residue for my preferences-- apricot, prune, not sure. Overall, this beer did not impress me very much. There are far too many other good Doppelbock’s to explore and enjoy.

Pours dark brown with one inch bubbly tawny head(doesn’t last). Aromas of dark fruit, molasses and sweet malt, alittle nutty; light alcohol. Medium-light body was hoping for more. Caramel, raisins, little chocolate with a yeasty malt, alcohol pretty well hidden; light hop finish. Looks like a doppel, smells like a doppel, tastes eh! good for a micro, stick to the authentic German

Hardly any aroma, but what there is is nutty with a faint hint of caramel. The sweetness and mouthfeel are pleasant and not too cloying, but I wouldn’t say "rich" as in the commercial description. It is a rather thin mouthfeel for a Doppelbock. Its flavor is very good, and it leaves a smooth aftertaste which is nice. Overall, good in the realm of Doppelbocks, but still an inferior American imitation.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty fruity caramel aroma with some hints of dark fruit. Has a fruity malty caramel flavor with some hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish malty caramel finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Cloudy amber color with a thin tan head. Light caramel aroma. Flavor is dry with hints of raisins, bread, caramel, a light trace of dark chocolate and a bitter finish.

Decent doppel. Pours a nice dark amber color with medium tanish head. Smells of sweet caramel and grandmas basement. First sip hit me with a ton of alcohol flavor even tho its 8%. After that I got caramel and dried peaches. Finishes well balanced after the alcohol burn goes away.
