an overall underwhelming affair. I too sucumb to the promise of cocoa goodness only to be once again dissapointed. It has a dark brown almost black appearance with a sweet aroma. fair mouthfeel if you can manage to get around the overpowering sour/metallic tastes that just sits in your mouth. not sure what to do with the other five.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jan 26th, 2007: The beer is a dark chestnut color with a medium thin and rather fizzy light brown head that dissipates right away. Thin and spotty lacing. Cocoa aroma similar to opening a can of the powdered mix. Not much else to the aroma. Medium-bodied and lightly roasty with cocoa dominating the flavor as well. The finish is sweet cocoa and is chalky at times. Pretty much a one-trick pony.

Bottle from State Line. Pours turbid deep brown with fizzy, 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of scwarzbier, with the dark roast malt and slight dark chocolate and slight molasses and nuts. Tastes tart, with some fruity dry red winet notes, plus roasty malt. There is a definite lactobacillus presence here, which gives this one a sour flavor; a flavor which I am not sure was intended. Let’s rate this and just say I’ll rerate with a fresh sample later. For now, it tastes like a mixture of chocolate syrup and vinegar poured over and collected from my wife’s unwashed feet.

Dark brown color with a tannish type head, decent retention, good lacing. Aroma was cocoa and coffee. Flavor was nasy sour cocoa/chocolate mixed with coffee, lactic notes, sour citrus, and diacetyl. This sucker was pretty bad, acidic, astringent, sour, nasty weak mouthfeel. Another TK bust beer.

(Bottle (best by 4/07) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pretty hideous...Pours hazyish dark cola-like brown with about three fingers of light brown head. Aroma is weird - smells more like food than beer. It smells like a sour sauce of some sort, soy sauce and cheap chocolate. Sour honey smell, if that’s possible. Hmmmm. Mouthfeel watery and fizzy. This is crap. It tastes like leftover Chinese food, vinegar, honey and weakly carbonated YooHoo mixed together in somebody’s garage. It’s awful.

Clear brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of cocoa and roasted malts. Flavor of chocolate with a little bitterness at the finish. Not much carbonation.

Nearly opaque brown with a huge head. Spare lacing. Aroma is an unpleasant mix of toasted malts and hot chocolate. Taste brings out a little more roasty malts, which helps. Medium++ body. Some bitterness in there.
