Commercial Description:
Tommyknockers were mischievous elves who slipped into mining camps with the Cornish miners in the 1800s. Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Tommyknocker Brewery, this special brew is meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup, the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts and is accented with the finest blend of European and American hops. Imperial Nut Brown Ale is a bigger, bolder version of our wildly popular Maple Nut Brown.

The aroma is just slightly hoppy. Dark pour with a nice tan foam. Slightly acidic in the flavor with a chocolate taste in the bitterness. A rather dry flavor.

Poured a Mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma was strange but not unpleasant of grapefruit juice and nutty chocolate. Say What?! Tastes like nuts, chocolate with some hops but has a too earthy finish I did not really care for. Also for a 10% beer the flavor was not big and bold as expected. "OK" and worth a shot at under $5 a bomber.

Brown, light tan head. Nose held soft tones of maple toasted chestnuts, molasses, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor held straight forward notes of nutty sweet malt and maple candy. Just a touch of hop bitterness rounds this off, but it still remains on the sweeter side of balance. Full bodied and smooth, soft carbonation, nutty sweet finish. Decent after dinner sipper. Would love to see this brewery make some other bigger styles...

22 oz bottle. Poured a deep reddish brown color. Head was light tan with good retention and lacing. Smelled of toasted bread and milk chocolate. Thick and oily on the tongue with an unexpected delicate acidity. Tasted of molasses, maple syrup, and subdued sour fruits with a light acidic finish. the 9.8% alcohol was mostly masked.

(22 oz. bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) OK stuff but just doesn’t stand out flavor-wise...Pours brown, same color as maple syrup. A small light biege head recedes little even as glass warms. Fairly mild aroma is mostly brown sugary, a bit doppel-like but with no depth or complexity. Palate is very nice and smooth; beer has a particularly good texture. Finish is a bit drying. Nice fine rings and webs of lacing. Flavor is mildly sweet with fairly prominent bitterness overlaying from start through finish. Notes of maple syrup and warmer sips featured some cocoa-like flavor. Hints of high ABV but overall pretty well-hidden. Quite lacking in flavor for a big beer. Has some good characteristics except for boring flavor.

Bottle. Aroma of sweet malt, alcohol and some dark fruit. Good palate with low carbonation. Flavor is similar to the smells, like a stronger version of a brown ale with subtle barleywine flavors.

Pours a maroon-brown, smallish town head. Aroma was good, but faint. Some chocolate, brown sugar, alcohol, and a hint of dark fruit. Good mouthfeel, but maybe a little thin, not much carbonation. A slight alcohol warming; flavor is pretty good. Probably would have liked it with less alcohol; flavor would be good for a session beer. Not much hops; liked it better than the cumulative ratings.

Bomber. Pours clear dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Not much aroma. Flavor is sweet with the maple syrup and candy sugar. Plum and fig flavors and a little alcohol taste, but not much hops or bitterness. Not really what I was expecting for an Imperial Nut Brown, having just tried the Dogfish Head Indian Brown (also atypical). This is a little sweeter than I prefer, having too little hops and bitterness for balance. Earns a point for high abv. Its ok, but not something I could recommend. $3.79 at Total Wine.
