Commercial Description:
Tommyknockers were mischievous elves who slipped into mining camps with the Cornish miners in the 1800s. Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Tommyknocker Brewery, this special brew is meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup, the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts and is accented with the finest blend of European and American hops. Imperial Nut Brown Ale is a bigger, bolder version of our wildly popular Maple Nut Brown.

22 oz. bottle. Big maple smell when opened. Pours dark brown, thin soda head. Smell in the glass adds some coffee roast porter malt. Taste is pretty sticky and sweet. That’s unfermented maple at work, I guess. For a high-test beer, seems to be lacking a big taste. Can’t find much alcohol here, but sometimes I get that maple again, or some brown sugar. I’ve held on to this a couple of months, this is probably as good as it gets.

22 oz Bottle via Ba Secret Santa (thanks lackenhaus!) Pours a dark dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is vanilla and toffee. Taste is sweet with some vanilla, toffee, nuttiness and some spice (perhaps cardomin). Some roastiness and piney hops in the finish. There is a bit of alcohol heat as well. Moderate to high carbonation. Medium body. A bit rough but not bad.

Bomber. Dark brown color. Slightly off white head. Sweet aroma. Very sweet flavor, almost syrup like (it’s brewed with maple syrup, so it makes sense). Strong alcohol content hits you hard after completion, but is less noticable when consuming.

[bomber] Very dark ruby brown color. Short off-white head quickly diminishes down to a few swirls on the top. Sugary, caramel aroma. Flavors begin very sweet, backing up the aroma well. Roasted, sweet malts provide the slightly one-sided foundation for this beer. The finish, however, is kind of interesting, with a warm, nutty maple syrup flavor. Interesting, but not something I’d really pick up again.

Nearly opaque brown with a large head. Fair lacing. Aroma of maple, chocolate and earth. Taste is very rich and cloyingly sweet. No sense of the high alcohol content in the taste. Medium to full body. Syrupy texture. Finishes sweet.

Pours a deep mahogany brown witha fast vanishing tan head. Aroma of burnt malts, carmel and alcohol. Taste is semi-sweet and sticky. Tastes like nutty maple flavored caramel. Alcohol is hidden well. It’s not a very subtle beer, but I still can’t decide if I like it or not. I agree with other raters that have said that the flavors are a bit "artifical".

Pours a brown, almost black color with burgundy highlights. Creates a 1/2" dense tan head which fades to a paisley patterened wispy coating. Minimal spotty lacing. Emits rich, pleasant aromas of toffee, maple syrup, molasses, hazel nuts, raisins, cocoa powder and brown sugar. Full, chewy round palate with a fine, subtle carbonation. Flavor much like the aroma, but not as rich and hefty as one would expect from the nose. Pleasing notes of dark fruit, cocoa, toffee, roasted malts and molasses with a faint hop and alcohol presence to tame the sweetness. Unfortunately, seems to have a slight weird mid-palate watery thiness that detracts from the enjoyment. Overall very reminiscent of an English-style Barleywine to me. The 9.8% abv is almost unperceptible. At $3.99 a bomber it’s a good deal and certainly worth another visit or two.
