Well, at 9.8% ABV, this is certainly a ’big’ brown ale. But, it tasted just like any other brown ale out there. There was nothing imperial about it. I guess the emperor has no clothes. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 14, 2006 Aroma is overly sweet, as is the taste. A bit off-balance and thin with a dry finish. I was expecting more of a dessert beer, which I guess this might qualify as, but it just didn’t hit the mark I was looking for. Not an overall disappointment but there are much better brown ales out there. waolsen (1224), Littleton, Colorado, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 28, 2006 The aroma has lots of alcohol, sugar, toasted malt, and a little maple syrup. The appearance is dark red brown with a medium head. The flavor is toasted malt, brown sugar, maple syrup, nuts, chocolate, and alcohol. The palate is average. If you didn’t know from my ratings this is a sweet beer and it should be however it would benefit from more maple syrup taste. Palidor19 (1792), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2006 I was kinda shocked that the alcohol content is not as strong as it would appear to be, even though its almost 10%.
A smooth, almost buttery texture with very sweet nut tones, its got a great flavor. Drink it with desserts acertain (249), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Apr 21, 2006 Deep brown with an off-white head. Aroma is very sweet. I guess I could buy it’s maple and nutty, but what my brain said was "Grape Nehi." There was some beer in there, too, but if I didn’t know what I was smelling, I would swear it was a soda. In the mouth, I detected maple and nuts (with just a hint of the Nehi). It was moderately bitter to finish. Body was full and creamy with moderate carbonation. Although strange, I liked it more than my raw numbers would warrant. Maybe it was the buzz I caught after about the third sip. Thanks to jimbowood for this one. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 13, 2006 Interesting, but somewhat bland, aroma is honey roasted peanuts and somewhat woody. Lacks the malty complexity I was hoping for. Flavor is mildly mapley, with just a hint of caramel and chocolate covered peanuts. Decent, but not the best I have ever had.
