Commercial Description:
Tommyknockers were mischievous elves who slipped into mining camps with the Cornish miners in the 1800s. Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Tommyknocker Brewery, this special brew is meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup, the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts and is accented with the finest blend of European and American hops. Imperial Nut Brown Ale is a bigger, bolder version of our wildly popular Maple Nut Brown.

pours a dark brown w/ light hints of red and a nice small bubbled brown head. Smells very sweet, maple syrup is prevelant alcohol notes are easily seperated along with some hints of chocolate. Palate is fairly average. Flavor is over the top maple syrup, raw alcohol, some light walnut and a kind of dry blah. Feels like a beer that shoudln’t have gone imperial.

Pours a medium amber brown color. Almost no head. Aromas of maple, roasted malt, chocolate, molasses, and a hint of hop. Flavors mild chocolate, Maple, some nutty hints, and a touch of hops. Medium bodied with a dry finish. A touch of alcohol comes out at the end. I was expecting more from an "IMPERIAL", still a good brew.

22 oz bottle (also says 473 ml on the label...uhhh, guys, 473 ml is about 16 oz....metric conversion’s not rocket science) served at cellar temperature in a St. Ambroise glass. Bottle dated June ’05, purchased December 05 somewhere in the midwest. A moderate fizzy head dies fairly quickly atop the deep tawny reddish-brown body....really odd astringent nose, burnt or perhaps rancid nuts, cheap Mrs Butterworths maple and acrid woodsmoke....you know I love smoke, but this is ghastly....body is lightly alcoholic, with more burnt-nutty character, a bit grapy and lactic, with more of that astringent, harsh unpleasantness creeping in towards the end; its hard to describe, some metallic/medicinal character mixed with too-old nuts and cheap wine....body is thin, carbonation feels artificial, general feeling on the tongue is oily yet flaccid. Pretty close to horrible and I think probably the last Tommyknocker beer I buy unless they brew an unblended lambic that Ernest, Clark, Joris and Josh all agree is one of the best in the world....

Pours coca-cola brown with a thin tan head that dissipates away quickly. Weak aroma of grapes, caramel, brown sugar, grassy hops, and hazelnut. Flavor is very sweet initially, and the intense sweetness even carries into the finish. There is something in the flavor that is not good at all - it’s this fake, nutty, somewhat sour and metallic twang. Almost like a bad creamer was added to the beer. It has a nice creamy, smooth palate though, and good carbonation level as well. Overall, I was expecting much more from this "Imperial" nut brown ale. It’s not complex enough to be callled an imperial, but it’s an ok brown ale.

Bottle. Deep dark brown in color with a little head. Aroma is malty and roasty. Flavor is buttery. Caramel notes. Finish is dry. Decent beer. Ok beer.

Bomber courtesy of Goldtwins. While poured into two glasses, the aromas are totally different. The second glass has a netalic, tinny aroma and taste. Taste is buttery and not all that nutty. In fact, nothing is inspiring me at all about this. Bland, boring flavor that are off.

Cloudy, dark mahogany appearance with a tiny head and very little lacing. Chocolate and molassas were evident in the aroma from the roasted malts along with a hint of dark fruit. Was not expecting a lot of carbonation since the pour was relatively flat, but it was actually quite good. While sweetness is a part of the taste, it is not overpowering, although it does linger thru to the finish. Other noticable flavors include an earthiness that might translate into a nutty character and notes of caramel and toffee.

Pours dark brown with very thin basically not there head. Pretty sweet, maple syrup doesn’t really stand out to me, but caramel , nuttiness, and slight chocolate, with a hoppy finish, pretty good but not too complex either for an anniversary beer.
