Commercial Description:
Tommyknockers were mischievous elves who slipped into mining camps with the Cornish miners in the 1800s. Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Tommyknocker Brewery, this special brew is meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup, the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts and is accented with the finest blend of European and American hops. Imperial Nut Brown Ale is a bigger, bolder version of our wildly popular Maple Nut Brown.

Dark brown. Small, tan, poor excuse for a head. Nose is roasty malt, maple syrup, chocolate, subtle hops and alcohol. Same flavor with some nuttiness. Full, smooth body. Solid brown ale.

deep brown color with a slightly reddish hue. head is thick, beige and creamy. as the name would imply, the aroma is very nutty, with a sweetness to it...possibly the syrup. flavor is very nutty and the maple syrup shows up much more in the flavor. alcohol is only perceptible upon much swishing in the mouth. finishes with some acidic notes. not bad.

November, 2005 bottle. I’m hoping this is better than their Maple Nut Brown. Pours dark red with a small head. Weak sweet maple aroma, with nuts and a little toffee. This seems familiar. Very sweet flavor, with all of the above plus some roastiness. Alcohol is present throughout the taste, but never takes over. Decent chocolate and caramel finish reminds me of Stone 8th Anniversary. But to mention that beer in this review is an insult to Stone. Tommyknocker’s offering is easy-drinking for the abv, but lacks complexity and doesn’t offer anything interesting.

22 oz bottle: Pours a dark ruby brown with a fizzy light brown head that diminishes rather quickly. Aroma is very nutty with some hints of caramel. Initial flavor is rich with chocolate and brown sugar. Like the "Maple Nut Brown" I still can’t taste the maple syrup which is odd since the label promotes it. However, this brew is much better than the other. Palate is creamy but the alcohol is very evident in the finish. Overall, good but disappointing since this a "Special" Brew.

A dark brown appearance with a moderate head. The aroma in nutty and filled with chocolate and caramel. The flavor is similar to brownies and quite rich with nutmeg, chocolate, and maple syrup. This was a good one.

Nice dark ruby body with a fizzy off-white head. Slight hints of maple in the aroma and the flavor. No discernable alcohol in either. Medium bodied. Quite pleasant to drink, but nothing unique really. Slightly nutty, but overall a great beer.

22 oz. bottle purchased from The Andersons, Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 28, 2006; $4.99. Bottle is marked Jan. 2005 and suggests that the beer is best consumed within 4 months; oops. Lovely super-dark ruby with a medium-sized, frothy but somewhat fizzy light brown head. Aroma is dark sugar, molasses, malt, and slightly astringent. Flavor is similar: brown sugar and malt; alcohol is very well hidden, with the only real clue about the 9.8% abv being in the alcohol fumes found in the exhale. Medium-full body; moderately sticky. As a Vermont native, I don’t detect much in the way of maple syrup. Overall, this a solid beer that just lacks character; it’s pleasant and easy to drink, but it just doesn’t stand out from the crowd.

Very nice, deep brown coloring. Very light caramel colored head. Heavy maple syrup/sugar aroma and taste.
