| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 13, 2009 12 oz bottle from Stateline Liquors. Pours a deep dark chestnut brown with a smaller foamy light beige head. Aroma of nutts, bread, pancake syrup, and some alcohol creeping in as it warms. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a good dose of alcohol warming. Taste of chocolate, stale nutts, old brown bread and some alcoholic maple syrup. The alcohol in this one is a bit much and really shows so I’m thinking I would enjoy the non-Imperial version slightly more. ksurkin (413), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2009 on draft at capital ale house downtown. pours a very dark brown with hints of rust at the base and a whispy, white head. aroma is very roasted walnuts and chestnuts, dark coffee, some chocolate, and the smallest hint of maple syrup. flavor is slightly sweet with roasted dark malt, bitter chocolate, and a thin maple flavor with decent hop bitterness on the back end. palate was medium bodied with a very slightly thick/oily mouthfeel and a warming coffee finish. not spectacular, but a quality beer. blindeyedbetty (152), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Feb 21, 2009 12 oz. bottle poured a ruddy, rust colored brown with sparse mocha colored head. Aroma is sweet and malty with hints of something sour that seems really out of place. Front palate is sweet but otherwise indistinguishable, middle palate is of maple syrup, but not in a good way - thin and sweet like the syrup made with Splenda instead of sugar - and the finish is reminiscent of scorched coffee grounds. Body is thin. I’m not a fan of Tommyknockers to begin with, but this beer didn’t help any. fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2009 Bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm Dark mahogany color; generous creamy head. Light aroma of roasted malt and out-of-place sourness. The body is medium, thinner than expected, with chocolate and caramel flavor, less bitterness than common American beers and light woody touch (giving a very light sourness). Good, not exciting. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 9, 2009 (Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with ruby hints, foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, roasted grain, dried fruit and raisins. Slightly vinous. Malty, roasted taste with dark fruit, chocolate and cola. Fairly sweet and vinous with warming hints of cherries in brandy. Grainy finish with a sharp alcohol sweetness. Warming and tasty, but not really balanced. Cavie (1509), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Hazy brown pour with a light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma was pleasant, consisting of light cocoa and malts. It had a nice round flavor consisting of dry malts. It said it was brewed with pure maple syrup, but I didn’t taste that as prominently as I was expecting. A dry finish masks the 9% ABV quite well. All in all, it’s a good brew that could use a little wetter finish.
