Deep dark chocolate brown, with a hint of red. Cola sweetnesss, some chocolate, good bitter bite for balance. Full body, subtle carbonation, alcohol burns through it all creating a warm and long toffee finish. Excellent rich and malty beer with balance on a sherry like backbone. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 10, 2008 Imperial? This is the single most disappointing beer with the name "imperial" in the title I’ve yet tried. Not very flavorful, very malty, nothing else. Appearance was a murky, muddy brown, much like the other Tommyknocker beers I’ve tried. Aroma was virtually non-existent. Flavor was a bit caramel-y, but offered little else, including the alcohol ester. It was served in a tiny little stemmed glass, but didn’t seem special the way most other beers served in little stemmed glasses seemed to be. Disappointing.
I would not recommend this beer. gringo332 (240), Richardson, Texas, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Nuts and bitterness seem a bit subdued but it has a nice caramel malt sweet flavor and the alcohol warms me up. The palate is a bit light for something that seems advertised as jam packed with maple goodness. Notable for alcohol content. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 26, 2008 12oz. Pours a deep, deep dark red that tends to brown towards the middle of the glass. A thin off-white head perks up on the pour but is quickly gone. At room temperature this finally has any semblance of an aroma, that being mostly some milk chocolate toffee. Body also needs to be drank at room temperature, shows loads of vanilla, maple syrup, toffee, and chocolate. Palate almost makes me want to gag, it is thin, EXTREMELY sweet and flat. It is like having maple syrup drenched pancakes... without the pancakes. This really could benefit from some roasted malt enhanced body. I tend to stay away from beers with vanilla added and now I’ll have to add maple syrup to that list. Gross. omhper (12244), Stockholm, Sweden

Caramelly nose. Sweet with medium to full body. Dominated by malt syrup and molasses. Fruity and caramelly with some roasty coffeeish notes and warming alcohol. Fairly low bitterness. Warming but a bit sticky. joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 22, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a dense 2 cm tan head that is slowly diminishing. Aroma of molasses, smoke, and... sounds weird but soy sauce. Initial flavor of maple and molasses. The nuttiness and smoke follows through to the end. Medium to heavy body, moderate lacing, light to no carbonation, and moderate alcohol presence. Overall, maple and nutty with good alcohol... nice. yespr (12246), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Caramel and malty to molasses aroma. Maple syrup perhaps? Sweet mouthfeel. Sweet flavoured of syrup and caramel, light hoppy bitterness showing through. Breadish malt base flavour into a smooth sweet finish. Light fruity too.
