lb4lb (1267), Austin, Texas, USA May 11, 2008 Dark muddy brown, mostly opaque. light, short lived tan head. Smell is very nutty, rich brown sweet malt and a hint of cocoa. Smell is actually surprisingly nice. Taste is kind of cheap and sweet and artificial with syrupy nuttiness. Alcohol is hidden pretty well, but shows a bit. Definitely a richer mouthfeel than Tommyknockers’ other beers. Drinkable, and one of their better beers for sure, but still a bit too artificial tasting.
Nihon (188), Vernon, Connecticut, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle, $3.99. Pours deep brown, nutty sweet alcohol aroma. Burnt, medium bitterness with a hint of salty sweetness. Earthy, mossy aftertaste. Good, but not the best nut brown ale. jason (1464), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle. Poured a medium copper brown body. Aroma is light, sweet and sugary. Flavor is nutty, very sweet malt and caramel. Linus_Stick (1470), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 9, 2008 A very nice American Strong. Aroma was all maple syrup, peanut and caramel and toffee. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin tan ring for a head. Taste was very sweet and malty. Strong Mrs. Butterworth and caramel malt, with earthy vanilla and and bitter hops in the aftertaste. Very little carbonation which hurts the score. Nice and different from the usual hop bomb that this style is. drewbeerme (1711), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2008 12oz bottle. pours dark brown with beige head. floral hop aroma with caramel malt notes. some maple syrup finish it out. flavor are a dried dark fruit, vanilla, sweet caramelly finish. the alcohol really dries the palate out. sort of a fizzy mouth feel. just oaky. natedoggkc (156), Lenexa, Kansas, USA Jul 8, 2008 Pours a dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Definately has a nutty aroma and is on the sweeter side. The taste is pretty sweet and is pretty nice but the finish is a little too long lasting. Overall pretty good.
