Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Dark brown ale with a thin cream colored head that disappears quickly. Malt and American hops in the nose. Roasted, almost smoky malt flavor, with a sweet touch from the maple syrup. A bit of the flavor of the tree. From a six bottle sampler.

Rated 12/8/06: Oy, this is a sorry excuse for a brown ale. Actually this is a sorry beer period. I look at my numbers and I feel I’m being a tad generous to the rating, but I’ll leave them be. Redeeming qualities are in very short supply. Real quick: slight maple aroma nothing else, good initial pour soon becomes flat and thin, mouthfeel is awkward and light, flavor is so freaking weak and bland, overall a major bummer. Back in ’97 I took my first road trip out west, we drove through Idaho Springs and boy am I glad we didn’t stop if this is what passes for beer in that little mountain town. Later gnomes!

12oz bottle, Brickskeller. Pours a cloudy, dark-amber color; off-white head with good lacing. One-dimensional, sugar and caramel aroma. Medium, candy sugar and brown sugar mouthfeel: medium carbonation; wet malts and hints of maple syrup; slightly tart. Quick, sugar and citrus finish.

I don’t know if the amount of maple syrup is a ’delicate’ amount..and it seems when you first drink this like you’re drinking some chocolate and maple pancakes...but I like it and the snobs on this site who rate this beer do it a disservice! Give it a try if you like someting a bit different.

12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma was of light hops and coffee. The flavor had some coffee, burnt malt and a tangy sweetness that is hard to describe. I’m not sure if that is the maple, but it doesn’t suit my taste at all. This one isn’t for me.

Very sweet maple aroma, as well as the flavor. Very dissapointed, I like the idea on this one but the execution left much to be desired.
