Malt and American hops in the nose. Roasted, almost smoky malt flavor, with a sweet touch from the maple syrup. A bit of the flavor of the tree. From a six bottle sampler. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Rated 12/8/06: Oy, this is a sorry excuse for a brown ale. Actually this is a sorry beer period. I look at my numbers and I feel I’m being a tad generous to the rating, but I’ll leave them be. Redeeming qualities are in very short supply. Real quick: slight maple aroma nothing else, good initial pour soon becomes flat and thin, mouthfeel is awkward and light, flavor is so freaking weak and bland, overall a major bummer. Back in ’97 I took my first road trip out west, we drove through Idaho Springs and boy am I glad we didn’t stop if this is what passes for beer in that little mountain town. Later gnomes! One-dimensional, sugar and caramel aroma. Medium, candy sugar and brown sugar mouthfeel: medium carbonation; wet malts and hints of maple syrup; slightly tart. Quick, sugar and citrus finish. Give it a try if you like someting a bit different. Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA

| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | May 6, 2007 12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma was of light hops and coffee. The flavor had some coffee, burnt malt and a tangy sweetness that is hard to describe. I’m not sure if that is the maple, but it doesn’t suit my taste at all. This one isn’t for me.
