Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Pour is a dark maple brown with a huge tan head. Aroma is hints of malts, hops and a thick sweetness. Flavor is blah. Super sour with nothing really redeaming going on. No maple no nuts just sour milk. Must be a bad of spoiled bottle b/c there is no way any brewer would sell this crap.

Hmmm, i just had to buy this beer when i saw maple on it. I love maple syrup. I was definitely a little disappointed in the beer though. It had a nice caramel sweet smell and a nice brown ale color, but other than that, there were no similarities to other brown ales. The tast was very watery, slightly hoppy, and bittersweet from the maple. The one thing I enjoyed was the finish. That is the only time the maple actually came through, giving an almost pancake like aftertaste. Overall, an interesting beer, but nothing special

Single 12 oz from a mix pack at The Andersons, Columbus, OH. Dark brown pour; big, white chunks of stuff sink to the bottom; small, creamy, eggshell head. Aroma is sour and fruity with a hint of malt and caramel. Flavor is sharp with a lingering sourness, a little malt and zero hops; aftertaste does not exist. Medium-thin body. Nut browns should not be sour, and last time I checked they shouldn’t have white chunks floating in them; I’d say this is infected; after pouring off the liquid, the white stuff at the bottom smelled of sour milk; absolutely wretched.

Dark clear brown with a thin beige head. Lightly chocolatey, nutty aroma that perked up as it warmed. Flavor was some roasted chocolate and caramel sweetness but really came across as watered down. Roasted coffee finish rounds it out. I didn’t find it as bad as some of the previous reviews but I’ve had better brown ales.

I was looking forward to trying these from the my two 12 oz bottles. I really enjoyed Tommyknockers Impeirial Nut. This one was not even close to the imperial. It was watery with only trace amounts of any maple flavor or nut flavor whatsoever. My bottles were also quite skunky. I might as well had been drinking flavored water. Too bad. So sad.

12 oz. bottle. The slightly sour aroma features chocolate malt; it is reminiscent of a dunkel. There is only the slightest hint of maple syrup in the smell. It pours a translucent dark brown with an orange hue and a small amount of beige head. The flavor is quite sour, as one might find in a bad oatmeal stout. It is a bit of a shock at first, and, while I got used to it, I still objected to it. I don’t taste the maple or the nuts at all. The beer produces a roasted coffee finish. It is light in the body and watery in the texture. The bottle says best by December 2006, and I drank it in early January 2007. That’s not ideal timing, but it’s not bad enough to be the source of the problem. This stuff just isn’t good. It was hard to finish, and I don’t mean in the way that an imperial stout can be hard to finish. Honestly, I’d rather drink most American macro pale lagers.

Pours a dark amber color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, caramel, and sweet maple. Flavor is much the same with a decent maple finish. A slight bitter finish but not that much. A little surprised with this brew but not anything special.

This is absolute superb. Very smooth, no aftertase, and pleasantly mild with no bitter aftertaste. Very dark brown out of the bottle and it it has a down side, doesn’t create much of a head. Nut other than that, definitely two thumbs up
