| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Poured a deep dark brown with a medium white lacing head from the bottle. Sugary aroma, slight malt, and spicy, like bourbon or whiskey. Strange flavor, super sugary like poorly mixed KoolAid. Maple flavor is almost non-existent. Watery on the palate. Not very pleasing at all. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Pours a weak, cola-brown color with dead carbonation and a khaki head that dissipates quickly to a thin skin. The dry, roasted graininess which greets the nose seems unfinished. Notes of toast and burning wood (moreso pyrography than campfire). There is a sublime sweetnes to this beer’s nutty flavor, but its consistent roasted character keeps it in check. I was confronted with more maple in Tommyknocker’s Butt Head Bock recently. This offering has solid flavor with interesting character that does not become cloying.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 16, 2006 Bottle poured into a globe glass, murky brown, iced tea color, with an inch of slowly dissipating tan, creamy head. Pretty sticky lacing. Smells a bit sweet and sour. It is highly carbonated, very sweet, almost cidery. The palate is just shy of syrupy. I just taste sweet acids and lighly roasted malts. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2006 Bottle, packaged Aug. 06. Don’t know about anyone else, but I find the smell upon pouring nicely compelling. Stoutish, chocolate-y and coffee-y with hints of maple underneath. Dark brown under a fizzy, short-lived head. First taste impression, though, is that it may have been carbonated too highly. But then those lovely aromas make way for a rather basic brew accented by a not overwhelming maple syrup spin. Maybe if I were having much more, it might turn me off, but this is a nice change for a session brew. jlruthven (137), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 6, 2006 Poured dark brown, with hints of red here and there, thin whitish head. Smells as adverstised, nuts and maple syrup. Taste is surprisingly (read "unpleasantly") bitter; not overpoweringly so, but it does detract. Kept from being a failure by the rich maple tones and sweetness. Not my first choice...not my second or third either, but its not at the bottom.
THIS is Tommyknocker’s flagship beer? I’d have expected quite a bit more from the number one selling beer of a Colorado microbrewery. Holdwine (909), Beertimore, Maryland, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Pretty average. However, the maple flavors and sweet notes make it a little interesting. Strong chocolate/coffee presence. Okay to drink if you have to. gws57 (1148), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2006 Updated: Dec 11, 2006Found this one bottled in Belvidere, Illinois. Dark, brownish red pour with a thin, white head. Nose of maple syrup, peanuts, cocoa powder, nutmeg and pancakes, taste is balanced but muddy. Lots going on here but none of it specacular. All in all, not bad.
