Aroma was brown ale like with some citrus in there, an odd combination. The flavor was bitter nuts, other brown ale flavors, and oddly enough some citrus / sour notes, very strange. Bitter from the nuts and sour at the same time. The maple was subdued. Mouthfeel was moderate for the style and this one was a pretty weak example of the style. I’m giving up for the evening. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 31, 2006 I’m trying this side by side with the Tommyknocker Imperial Nut Brown Ale... The Maple Nute Brown Ale is very cloudy with floaties and is dark brown. Generous carbonation and a foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet and minds me of maple syrup. Flavor is quite interesting. It seems more sour than sweet, some smokiness in the background and finish, and no bitterness. I didn’t really pick up any maple, except for what was in the aroma. Feels fizzy and thin on the palate. I was very disappointed with this beer.

There is also plenty of sweetness but it leaves a sour aftertaste. Also, even the beer is of a medium body it has a watery feel in the mouth. Disappointment took over for confusion. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Pours dark crimson, clear, with tons of carbonation but no head. Reminds me of coke. Light nutty, dry bitter aroma. Taste is tons of maple, slight oxidation. Nice bitterness from the chocolate malt, but it’s hidden by the sweetness and maple. Light nuttiness in the finish. mattd017 (51), Jacksonville, Florida, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 7/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Wow, Tommyknocker seems to believe in order to make beer, you have to add more sugar than hops. It tasted way too sweet from start to finish. Had no bitterness. Smelled very mapley. Had very fine carbonation. Thick creamy mouthfeel, which was good. Poured dark brown, almost opaque, which was good. But the important part, taste, fell way short. mstockton (186), Rochester, Michigan, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 5, 2006 Not bad, but kind of lacking in the flavor department after the sweetness from the Maple hits. I had it in bottle. Not fizzy, which was nice. Decent beer. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Light hazy deep amber colour with a small beige head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of toffee and nuts. Malty, caramel sweet flavor with notes of nuts. Light dry and sweet finish. JK (2952), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 30, 2006 Unusual. Dark brown with a thick and creamy Guinness-like head. Flavor has very light maple. Flavor is sour; I wonder if it is infected? If it is, the infection is probably helping this beer. Sweet malt finish.
