Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Clear brown. Small, creamy, light tan head. Nose: toasty malt, brown sugar, maple syrup, prunes, and some cola. Flavor: same with some nuts. Cola aftertaste. Medium/light, balanced body. Drinkable, not bad.

Murky brown body with some ruby highlights and a very small ring of a head. The aroma is a huge amount of caramel, I mean an unholy amount od caramel. Almost no nutty roasted malt aroma as one might exepct with a brown ale. No maple to be found either. The flavor is slightly less caramel with some evidence of nuttiness and maple syrup. Too sweet. Palate is thin and slimy. Not very good IMO.

Barrel Draught from the jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 01/10/2005 Amber coloured and slightly sweet on the palate. Some dryness in a nutty flavoured finish.

Bottle-The pouris a dark ruby/brownish color with higher than average carbonation. The head quickly disappears to leave a slight maple aroma that is mostly overrun by a nutty, malty smell. The taste was way more roasted than sweet, the maple only appearing in the middle sip, but never lasting through the sip. The palate had a touch of syrupy feel to it.

Sept. 05 bottle courtesy of Degarth: Pours a dark amber mahogany with a light-lacing light tan head. Sweet, sugary maple aroma has a hint of noble hops. Body starts with a light, mild dark sweetness and some nutty notes through a very thin, watery body. The finish is almost non-existent. All the flavor sort of wafts away about half-way through the sip. There’s nothing here off-flavor-wise, but it’s just very thin and bland for a brown ale.

The color was brown but did not have any head. You could smell the maple syrup. It had a thick taste and very good flavor. Nice finish.

Smooth with slight sweet taste. Expected sweeter but preferred the slight bitterness.

Watery, thin palate is the downfall of this brown. There are occasional bursts of flavor: too-sweet maple syrup and dry coffee/toast, but the beer is in large part flavorless. Gingery, syrupy, grainy aromas are more interesting, but not enough to save the day.
