Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Watery, thin palate is the downfall of this brown. There are occasional bursts of flavor: too-sweet maple syrup and dry coffee/toast, but the beer is in large part flavorless. Gingery, syrupy, grainy aromas are more interesting, but not enough to save the day.

No head on a pure ruby body, absolutely beautiful color. Awesome walnuts and maple aromas. Outstanding maple sugar flavoring, accented with heavy malts, caramel and carbonation. Very sweet ending, with a final accent of Maple. Very enjoyable and highly underrated.

Dark brown color with a thin fully diminishing white head. Aroma of light maple syrup. Flavor of roasted malt and hints of caramel.

Low carbonation, maple-raisin, nut taste only sneaks itself in, as the hops are non-existent. Soft and thin on the palate.

12 oz. Bottle: Pours a dark amber color with an off-white head that diminishes quickly. Aroma has hints of nutmeg and caramel. Initial flavor is sweet and finishes thin and watery. I was expecting and looking for a maple syrup taste but couldn’t find it.

Draught at Tyler’s in Durham, NC. Clear ruby brown color with bubbly tan head. Some caramel in the nose, but not much else. Tastes of caramel and brown sugar. Any maple flavor in there was hidden from my tongue. Subtle sweetness up front with a slight metallic finish. Smooth with relatively low carbonation.

Market Square Liquors, Tallahassee, Fl. 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber with a very thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is verging on scary and horrendous - akin to what one of those jars of pickled eggs that sit on the bar at neighborhood bars would smell like if I had the courage to stick my head in it. Flavor is cloyingly sweet with a matching sourness that puckers your lips. Vinegar, sea salt water, hints of chocolate - but no maple syrup to be found. Mouthfeel is thinnish, slightly metallic in the finish. Avoid at all costs. Tastes as if it was left out in the sun too long - but it was part of a sealed 12 pack of assorted from this brewer and none had this problem. Will re-rate the next one if it improves.

Poured a dark brown with a slight red hue. Dark brown head that went away instantly. No lacing. Slight malty aroma. I do not get any maple in the aroma or taste. Taste is of slightly sweet malt and that’s just about it. Clean finish and quite boring.
