Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Bottle from Peace St. Market in Raleigh. A deep brown pour met me with aromas of maple syrup, brown sugar, and caramel malt. The flavor was mapley with some brown sugar and cacao hints. Medium palate.

Dark brown with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is nuts, toasted wheat bread, and some maple. Flavor is sweet malts, nuts, and toasted bread. There is some slight maple in the flavor too. A bit watery.

Aroma is sharp and almost cheese like. Red/brown with a small fading head. Basic brown ale with a bit of woody maple sweetness. Not bad not good.

Dark brown, pretty basic like their others, nice brown ale with sweetness from the maple syrup, not overpowering and not very complex, but I liked it.

Deep red, not particularly brown. What nose is there is of cocoa and light malt sweetness. Flavor is light sweet chocolate, toasted caramel, some overly sweetened roasts. Bit of maple syrup to it, but not too much. Very sweet, but not horrid.

playing foosball and drinkn beer or skiing whatever it was i had this beer at downstairs erics in breckenridge. dark brown liquid with a tan funkafied head. caramel coated nose of a fallen biscuit. flavors in the mouth are pushed with full carbonation and walnut and rock candy. actually does have a nutty flavor. reserved and misunderstood feelings here. quite thin and uninteresting.

I had thought highly of this beer for about 3.5 years until this recent bottle I had. Now I know I got a bad batch, because every other time I got this beer it was really good. This time, however, it was sick. I bought a 6-pack and didn’t even finish the first beer before I took it back to the store. The overall aroma and taste was sour, and the sourness overpowered any maple flavor that might have been there. It was really gross; not the tasty maple beer I remembered. I don’t know what happened, but I won’t try it again until a 2006 batch is made.

definitly has the flavor of maple syrup. Not to overpowering but it is pretty sturdy. Smooth with a slightly strong aftertaste.
