Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Bottle. Pours fizzy mahogany brown with small head. The aroma is sweet and malty. The maple is evident in the flavor, but not as prominent as I would expect. The flavor is actually kind of sour with faint sweetness, some barley, and some yeast. Meh, it’s ok.

On tap at the Brewgrass Festival in Asheville, pours a dark, glazed bronze with a nice head. Tastes of black cherries and light vanilla. Kinda like a maple donut. Not good, not bad. Meh.

Looks like beer w/ maple syrup in it. Tastes like beer w/ maple syrup in it, not good. Its a big turn off, and the smell sux too. Given my bottle is approaching the four month mark, but this jst isn’t good.

Draft, Great Decatur Beerfest. Ruddy clear brown pour. Sweet maple aroma, nutty and toasty. Flavor was a bit of a letdown. Toasted caramel malt flavors, maple sugary. Just didnt seem to jive with me.

Bottle. Deep transparent brown with a reddish glow. Minimal head. Sweet nutty aroma with a touch of butter flavored maple syrup. Flavor not as good as aroma, odd minerally quality in the background, kind of like diet soda. Tastes thinner than it feels. Not bad, but aroma promised more. Why in Minnesota do we get assaulted with weak Colorado breweries like this one and Breckenridge, and can’t get decent stuff like New Belgium?

(12oz bottle) Small off-white head atop a clear dark red-brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some maple, light nutty, chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, nutty, maple. Minimal bitterness. Watery, fairly flat, light-medium body with a bit of stickiness.

Pours an ugly dirty dark reddish brown with no head at all. Aroma of molasses and dark fruits. Flavor has notes of toasted malt, brown sugar, caramel and maple syrup. Pretty sweet, not much hop bitterness detected. Thin, watery body with very subtle, almost flat carbonation. Didn’t like this one too much.
