Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

Quite a lot of nut flavor apparent. Rather tasty however, and a nice example of a brown.

Crushed with Jakebra. Whew, plug your nose and throw this one down quick. Poop roast on the nose. Flavor has roast, some chocolate, and plenty of poop added in just in case. Glad I’ve only got this one in a variety sixer. This is not a good brown ale.

When I popped the top off the bottom, the maple aroma hit me immediately. Once that subsided, I could detect hints of molasses. This is a very good brown ale.

12 oz bottle acquired from the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL) and sampled. I didn’t really want all of this, but wanted to see how it was and get it out of my way overpacked cellar. Poured a light brown, largely transparent, with decent offwhite head that sticks around and laces a little. Aromas are maple, nice brown sugary malt, light nut, and some biscuity toffee malts. Initial is light, a little watery, with not much taste. What is there is light biscuity malt and brewers yeast, light maple syrup, and brown sugar, with a touch of bitterness on the finish. Lacks flavor and overall lacks body.

Butter’s 4th cellar reduction. A mostly clear dark brown amber. Has a thin tan head and a sweet nutty aroma. Taste is roast nutty and sweet as well. Sort of a watery finish.

Light maple brown in color but thins out to yellow on the edges of the glass. Unsweet molasses on the nose. Palate beings typical of a nut brown. Slighty sweet and nutty. Finish is quick on and satisfying.

Bottle at the Fourth Butters’ Cellar Clearance Event. Near clear amber brown body with big bubble white head. Nose of sweet caramel and maple syrup. Flavor is sweet malt, some smokeyness, nuttyness, and a vegetal finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Drinkable.

12 oz bottle at Butters’ 4th Cellar Reduction. Pours a ruby amber body with a slightly lacing off-white head. Smells of sweet malt and brown sugar. Tastes of caramel with some maple and nut notes. Watery finish.
