Commercial Description:
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by Munich caramel and chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal & 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal Winner

This beer is just what it sounds like. A sweet brown beer with maple flavoring. It was a bit too sweet for me, but it was fun to try.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a rich brown with off-white head. Aroma of maple syrup and sweet chocolate malt. Taste was sweet and maple-ish, with a smooth mouthfeel. Overall I think this is a pretty enjoyable brown ale.

Bottle. Maple ale intrigued me so I thought I’d give it a try. Pours dark brown with slight head. Taste is malt with a slight maple taste. Slight wood/smoke flavor as well. Sweet smelling, very easy to drink. Would recommend as a "starter" brown ale. Might buy again.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very nice rich brown color with a beige head full of tiny, tightly packed bubbles. There is slight lacing and fairly decent retention, not the best though. Aroma is sweet and fairly nutty. A slight bit of the maple syrup is evident but not too in your face. Not too bad. Ugh...this is where the good stops. There is nothing really noteworthy in the flavor besides the slight maple that becomes apparent at the end. Very bland in the front, slight sweet malt notes. The palate is a bit odd as well, but I can’t really put my finger on it. I will say that it is very drinkable though.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color. Aroma is mostly roasted malt, some sweetness. Flavor is similar, but kind of bland. Roasted malt notes are all right. Ends abruptly with a musty taste. Palate feels a bit fizzy. I did have this about 14 months after its expiration date, so I didn’t expect much. (It was a bargain buy.) I’d be interested in trying a fresh bottle.

A darkly colored brew. Pours nicely, with minimal head. A sweet attack, which turns out flat on the finish. Just a touch too sweet for me

Pours nice brown color with ok effervescence. Then things went downhill from there. Not much lacing. Yeasty aroma. Not much maple syrup flavor came through. Finish notes were bitter, hoppy. I think there are better brown ales available.
