lithy (572), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 25, 2008 Clear reddish brown with a thin tan head that lingers and remains for a nice cover. Nose is sweet, nutty, brown malts, a bit roasty. Light body and maple syrup hits instantly. Finishes caramel-maple sweet combo over the hints of nuttiness and roasted malt. Overall easy to drink if a bit sweet.
Rustyham (28), miami, Florida, USA Jan 7, 2009 This is brown water that kind of smells good. Almost no head, and certainly no flavor. Budweiser is more identifiable from water than this. Steer clear. jmw141 (89), Canton, Illinois, USA Jan 3, 2009 12 oz bottle pour into shaker. "Drink within 4 months of March 2008," so this bottle is a few months overdue. Hopefully it won’t affect it too much.
Pours a dark, but clear red-brown. Thick, frothy off-white head craters as it dissolves.
Roasty aroma. Matly aroma. Nuts in there too.
Matly flavor with slight nut in the beginning. Not picking up on too much maple. Wonderful nut finish comes about 5-10 seconds after swallowing!
Slighty dry, but very nutty finish.
Notes: This is my first "Nut Brown Ale" so the high ranking comes from my surprise that these things actually taste like nuts! This could be my new favorite beer style.
Miksu (1478), Jyväskylä, Finland Dec 31, 2008 Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival 2008. Dark amber color. Strong aroma and flavor of rye bread. Too sweet and syrupy. DrDavid (674), Johnson, Vermont, USA Dec 30, 2008 Bottle. Sweet aroma, with definite maple notes. Brown body, small head. Flavor is a disappointment, compared to the aroma. Overly mild, although not unpleasant. astrofrk (114), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Dec 27, 2008 Brown. Medium head. Aroma of Caramel, nuts. Flavor of Caramel, maple, roasted nuts. Clean finish. Good but not really memorable.
