MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Oct 30, 2009 bottle. Thanks to bleeng, who shared it at the Houston RB Tasting in October. Pours dark with an off-white head. Nose is of smoked meat and oak. Huh? Never had a meaty dopplebock before. Taste is of oak, roast malt and smoke. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet. tnkw01 (124), USA Oct 29, 2009 Bottle. A really fine beer. Compared this one and the regular Butt Head Bock at the same time. When compared, one can really taste the oak flavor. Oak was better, but not by much. It was good. But would be probably a bit much if drinking several. May want the regular kind in that case. Highly recommended. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Oct 23, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a clear, deeply-hued, mahogany body with a thinnish, whitish head.
Smell: Sweet-scented nose with some notable alcoholic wafts and piercing notes of vanilla and green raisins. Personally, it’s not too terribly appealing.
Taste: Sweet maltiness, with some light caramel, but more than a fair share of sticky sugariness and marked by some traces of smoke. Garnished with a few green raisins. Lessened hints of brown sugar and vanilla. All in all, it’s a bit boozy throughout. Not too much in the way of hop character or bitterness. Finishes warming, semi-dry and with a lingering mixture of vanilla and smoke.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation. There’s a slight, smooth stickiness to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: I didn’t particularly care for the standard-issue Butt Head Bock, but had hoped a bit of oak would really make it come alive for me, though, sadly, this didn’t happen. Fair enough for an oak-aged American-made doppelbock. Let’s just leave it at that. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 23, 2009 (bottle from Veteran Liquor in Colorado Springs). Clear ruby/amber color. Medium off white head. Strong oak aroma. Oak and sweet caramel flavor. Avg duration. Smooth finish. Slick/creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Fair lacing. Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 18, 2009 Bottle courtesy of bleeng. Dark orange pour. Smell has large amount of beef jerky smell. Has a cheesy smoked smell with a taste to match. Tasty though. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Oct 11, 2009 Bottle. Poured an iced tea type color with an off-white head that settled to a ring. Aromas of caramel, dark fruits, vanilla, and wood. The flavor found vanilla, dark fruits, and a slight hint of spice. Medium body and sweet throughout. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Oct 8, 2009 Hazy brown pour with white head and lace. Aroma is brown sugar, vanilla, light oak. Flavor mirrors aroma with a hint of abv. A bit of a funky after taste but still a pretty decent beer. Just a tad thin as well. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 27, 2009 Brownish rugby, smallish head. Smells like bourbon, brown sugar, and molasses. Flavor is a little overly boozy at first, but seems to settle down a bit as I continue to drink. Bourbona nd brown sugar and molassess again in the flavor. Small bit of alcohol heat in the finish.
