Commercial Description:
A classic English Pale Ale dominated by pleasant hop bitterness and aroma. Dry hops impart unique aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this ale. Our Pick Axe uses a blend of hopping: British Columbia Bramling, Czech Saaz, and British East Kent Goldings which melds into an award winning flavor. 1997 & 2000 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

from 12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy orange color. Aroma is hoppy - citrus is evident. The taste is definitely hoppy. Almost perfect amount of hops. Very dry clean finish. A great beer but I would classify it as an IPA or APA.

On tap at the brewery. A better than average example of a pale, from an American brewer. Clean with an average body, Highly recommended on a May afternoon in Idaho Springs!

pours deep orange-copper with a quickly dissipating fluffy white head. unfiltered. aromas of nut and caramel with citrus shining through. taste is much heavier on the citrus and pine, with honey and another load of complex flavors that are hard to pick out. sort of like sauerkraut with brown sugar on top. finish is rather thin, though...all the flavors dissipate right away except for something reminiscent of quinine. crisp and refreshing on a hot day. not bad at all!

12oz bottle served in an English pint glass. Pours a syrupy amber color with a thin head. Smells of caramel, nuts, an grassy hops. Tastes of caramel, pine, and a bit of citrus. Finishes clean. A bit thin in the mouth for an English style pale ale, more like an APA. It was drinkable, but nothing outstanding.

Nice sweet candy and somewhat pine aroma, very attractive to the olfactory. Lighter brownish orange in color, a bit hazy. Flavor is bitter grapefruit rind, if I didn’t know better, I’d say this is an IPA or IIPA. Yes, it is that bitter and hoppy. Nearly acrid after each taste but in a good way. Terrible long lasting medicinal bitter linger. If you like IPA try this, you will not be disappointed.

Nice aroma gives way to a great balanced flavor. The hops are definately present but do not overpower the beer. It was nice to sit around with some friends and drink this beer.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of fruit, hops, grapefruit, apricot, tropical fruits, and a bit of resin. Poured amber in color with a medium-sized off-white head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of caramel, hops, metal, and grapefruit. Medium body. Lightly sticky texture is a bit thin. Average carbonation. Hoppy finish is a bit metallic.
