Commercial Description:
A classic English Pale Ale dominated by pleasant hop bitterness and aroma. Dry hops impart unique aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this ale. Our Pick Axe uses a blend of hopping: British Columbia Bramling, Czech Saaz, and British East Kent Goldings which melds into an award winning flavor. 1997 & 2000 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Bottle. Very cloudy light amber. The cloudiness kills the appearance for me. Decent head with good lacing. Wonderful apricot hops smell up front. A great aroma! Bitter, but finishes a little smoother than I expected. The bitterness actually fades quickly. Wouldn’t hate drinking it again, but am not looking forward to it.

Cloudy honey colored pour. Smell is grassy hops with a hint of caramel and fruit. Taste is slightly bland, but with some light, sweet malt flavor and hops that are in a good balance. Balanced, but could use a bit more of both and a bit bolder flavor, I thought. Decent, but very middle of the road as far as pales go.

Bottle sampled. Pours a light copper with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, and floral hops. Flavor is sweet and hoppy with light citrus, and caramel with a refreshing dry finish.

This could be called an IPA Lite...and even though I’m known for my love of strong Pale Ales...I’m DIGGIN’ this at the moment..It’s a welcomed, refreshing break from the big dog, full flavored IPAs...a perfect, thristquenching Beer for this time of year.......Editor’s note: This review was originally logged on June 17, 2007.

Orange-amber with disapating but foamy head / Hoppy, fruity nose / Light to medium body, a touch watery / Dry, forward hops predominate over base of orange and candied sugar / Good finish. More like an APA?

Bbe August 07. Slight haze in a copper-orange body, topped by a large, lasting meringue hat. Aroma is sharp herb-grassy hops with an almost plastic-like edge that isn’t as bad as it sounds. Flavor is similarly dominated by the peculiarly bitterish hops, but there is enough nutty and apple-fruit taste to keep it checked nicely. It may be the British style yeast that contributes some of the interesting flavors as well. Palate is slightly creamy, medium bodied, dryish with nary a tingle of carbonation. Definitely English influenced, this one seems true to the bitters style, but also improves upon it. Beats Bass by a county mile.

Bottle: Poured a orange amber with white bubbly head. The smell is a bitter hoppy pungent smell. The flavor is very unique as it starts off malty but then the dry hops comes in to make it bitter and pack a punch at the end. Awesome purchase while shopping around Florida.
