Commercial Description:
A classic English Pale Ale dominated by pleasant hop bitterness and aroma. Dry hops impart unique aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this ale. Our Pick Axe uses a blend of hopping: British Columbia Bramling, Czech Saaz, and British East Kent Goldings which melds into an award winning flavor. 1997 & 2000 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

12 oz bottle purchased at Olive or Twist in Platte City, Missouri. January 2009 notched on the label. Pour is hazed golden orange with a one inch off white head. Good lacing coats the glass. Nice looking. Aroma of toasty earthy maltiness with sweet fruit hoppiness present behind that. A bit of woody resin in there as well. Taste is big caramel malt out of the gate, tempered a bit by the resin hops and sweet fruit. Caramel is present in the back. Palate is low carbonation, medium bodied, coats the mouth nicely. Overall a nice take on a style I like.

Aroma is pretty light, but pleasant. Flavor is clean and mostly of hops, not much else. Carbonation is a little sharp and bitter. Overall, the beer is refreshing and clean, but not all that interesting.

Pours a hazy amber-orange color with medium white head. Strong hoppy and citrus-grapefruit aroma. Taste is definitely grapefruit and earthy hops. Not much malt, kind of one dimensional. Texture is a bit creamy, high carbonation. Medium bodied. Decent pale ale.

Deep hazy orange appearance with a clean orange zest aroma. Lightly sweet flavor to a short, lightly bitter finish. Less hoppy than other pale ales. A good balance.

Source:12 oz bottle from Archers in Norris.
Glass:Pint.
Appearance:Clear amber pour with a thin off white head.
Aroma:Caramel and citrus.
Flavor:Heavy caramel malt with a hint of citrus in the finish.
Palate:Medium body with solid carbonation.
Overall:This was actually pretty good for an English Pale. Will go back for this when fresh.
