Commercial Description:
A classic English Pale Ale dominated by pleasant hop bitterness and aroma. Dry hops impart unique aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this ale. Our Pick Axe uses a blend of hopping: British Columbia Bramling, Czech Saaz, and British East Kent Goldings which melds into an award winning flavor. 1997 & 2000 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

Pours a slightly hazy copper orange with a nicely-lacing frothy white head. Aroma of earthy, grainy caramel malt and subtly floral grapefruity hops. Body starts with a full, earthy sweet caramel flavor with a touch of English hoppy bitterness and citrus notes before a full-bodied bittersweet finish. Has nice English malty character and balance, but I expect an English Pale Ale to be a little thinner and easier to drink.

Had this cask-conditioned. A very tried and true pale ale with an overwhelming amount of hop flavor. Sorry, I’m just not a fan of this style.

12 oz bottle: reddish gold with a ring of white for a head. Pretty average caramel, vanilla and hop laced aroma. Fairly smooth palate, but does flirt with a watery-ness. Fair hop flavours with a quick bitterness in the finish. Certainly not the top of the line, but certainly drinkable.

The beer had a cloudy blondish color. The head was off white in color with excellent lacing. This Pale Ale was not as bitter as other Pale Ale’s.

Lemon/orange/thyme aromas on this cloudy, smoky beer. Nice hops throughout. Some soapy/piney bitterness. Finish is almost totally absent, however.

Clear golden color with a thin off-white head. Light honey aroma with some mild hops. Flavor of mild hops along with light malt and hints of honey

Nice medium volume off-white head with a Good golden-red body. A nice sweet, yet malty and hopy aroma. Some sweet fruits such as banannas and cherrys are evident. Good hops in the taste, some sweetness is again evident due to the malts. Clear ending.

Market Square Liquors, Tallahassee, Fl. - 12 oz bottle. Light copper pour, thickish, creamy off-white head that leaves a good coating of lacing. Patented pale ale aroma - slightly floral - kinda fruity - hint of pine, somewhat fresh - decent - more English than American definitely. Flavor has some subtle caramel hints, a bit of white grapes and some toffee. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Pleasantly surprised.
