Commercial Description:
A classic English Pale Ale dominated by pleasant hop bitterness and aroma. Dry hops impart unique aromas and flavors that add to the complexity of this ale. Our Pick Axe uses a blend of hopping: British Columbia Bramling, Czech Saaz, and British East Kent Goldings which melds into an award winning flavor. 1997 & 2000 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner

pretty hoppy nose and taste on this one, alot more so than im used to with an english pale ale. this is more like an american pale ale. orange colored pour, a pretty good beer, something that would go good on a summer day.

Bottle. Bright amber with a frothy white head that fades quickly but never vanishes. Mild carbonation. Nice fresh hop aroma with a slight sweetness. Flavors of acidic fresh hops with some sweet malt in the background and a surprisingly mild bitterness at the finish. Hop flavor remains after bitterness fades. Oh wait, the bitterness is back again. I could see this not being very good unless fairly fresh, as the hop flavor IS the beer. Better than expected.

Bottle. I have no idea where this one came from. It’s been in my fridge awhile. Brewed in October 2004 and it is September 13, 2005... Oh well, let’s try it anyway. Pours a chunky amber with lots of floaters... no real head on this, just pond scum. Murky copper color. Nice malty sweet toffee and hop nose. Body is a little thinner than I like, probably ok for the style, but low in carb as well. Taste is decent with a little hop and too little malt sweetness to balance it. Only ok, not a great beer.

Clear copper with a hint of red hue. Large off-white head that lasts for the whole beer. Aroma is very nice. Hoppy, both earthy and floral, toffee, sweet, and fruity. Flavor is ok. Semi-sweet malt, light hop flavor and mild bitter finish. Yup English style.

Orange color with a large, towering head. The aroma was just a crapton of floral hops, yet somehow, not overdone. Very nice. The taste was a bit of a letdown, as it seemed to just be muddled hops and bitterness stewing about in water.

Basic looking pale ale with a decent size white head that lasts. Hops in the aroma with a lingering sweetness that I can smell a few inches away from the glass. Rather boring flavor with a hint of citrus but not enough hop character to compliment the overly malty finish. Further proof that you can’t trust the drunken judges at beer festivals.

One of the best of their sampler pack, not that that’s saying much. Good enough hoppiness and a lingering dry sweetness.
