Commercial Description:
Recreated from an IPA recipe Mike Hoops found from the year 1800. The recipe was altered slightly with the british style hops additions (5 lbs per barrel) spaced out more during the boil to allow the beer to be drinkable now instead of months after a sea voyage.

cask version at the ABR. Mostly clear golden yellow brew with an impressive white foam cap. Nose is a cross between a pear and new pair of cotton socks.Thankfully the taste is pure bitter hops. Nice and bitter on the tongue. Good brew but not a great IPA by far.

Dark yellow colour with a nice rocky head. The aroma was largely piney hops, though it seemed a bit subdued. Pale ale amped up with hops, semi bitter and flowery hops, that is. Easy drinking beer that feels like a session beer. It’s not my favourite IPA.

I had this on cask at the brewery. First cask beer, and boy that style does not disappoint. It is so smooth. Some of the flavors are more subtle, but it is so creamy with just the right amount of hoppiness. Cask would probably appeal more to the non hopheads, since the bittering hops don’t come out and hit you like a brick. Nice change. Would be interested to rate a non-cask version of this beer.

cask version came out dark yellow with a large creamy cascading head. reminds me of a lighter colored guiness and loved the long lacing. aroma was perfumey with some pine notes. taste was milky, very balanced, probably my favorite town hall brew.

Very creamy, frothy and large head, a cloudy yellow. Lacing was excellent. Nose may have been spent but did not pick up any stong aromas. Served at a warmer temperature, not sure if I like that aspect. Very smooth. Taste - moderately bitter with a piney start and a hoppy flavor that I had not had before. My co-drinkers liked this beer more than me. Maybe I have under rated it but the short duration of the flavor dissapoints me.

Pint at the brewpub. Unfiltered, cloudy thick amber body with lots of lacing and a solid small head...pungent, wet leafy, somewhat barnyardy nose, hints of farmhouse cider goodness....woody, rough, acerbic body, touched by caramel, fairly alcoholic, with odd pungent characteristics start to finish...quite full, slightly low carbonation. Fascinating and well-made, but not something I could drink often.

Golden clear dark yellow with a fluffy white head. Very permufy and acidic/caustic nose of hop pellets, tinny orange and grapefruit sourness and leafy cannibus. Very creamy texture up front - and sweet - before quickly brandishing it’s tougher side: ruination-like texture across the back of the tongue, rough and sharp hop acidity. Overall it’s quite sweet, with some more interesting mandarin orange flavors mixed with the typical soft wood/hop/fruit notes. A very good IPA, the type I really prefer - creamy yet hoppy and acidic - this is a good brew. Big thanks go out to Pigfoot for the gift of a growler of this stuff.

Hazy, deep amber with dense, rich, cream head. Sweet hoppy aroma, and a curious flavor, like fruity yogurt (perhaps raspberry), band-aids, and a-specific flowers. Smooth palate, as it was hand-pulled from a cask. Initially it had the qualities of a soft, light barleywine, emphasizing the hop/malt balance dimensions of such a comparison, but as it warmed, it went downhill, and I had some doubts about the murky vegetal flavors I got. (cask at brewpub)
