JK (2394), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Apr 17, 2005 Doesn’t fit very well into any style, does it? The dubbel was a good call. I did get a dubbel taste but only for a few seconds. Sweet aroma, sweet taste. Rich. There is minimal fruit, but the sweetness seems to be from sugar.
detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 12, 2007 Pours a cherry-wood brown, with sparse carbonation and no head to speak of. A thin ring of foam clings to the side of the glass and provides sparse lacing throughout the pint. Sweet caramel malt and mild tea in the aroma.
One sweet tasting beer. I think it has a dark candi sugar flavor that dominates. A little caramel malt and rough grain in there too. Mild tart fruitiness, yeast, and a hint of black pepper in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, smooth, but too lightly carbonated in my opinon Nuffield (2537), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2006 Hazy, still-looking, chestnut red color. Yeasty, bready, with malts, not really bubble gum but something suggests it to me. Reminds me of the backstage smell at my old high school theater. Not super fruity. Palate: tingling, unremarkable. Decent. (on tap at brewpub) Stine (1329), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 29, 2006 On tap. Deep, refined amber color with a beige head that dies a quick death. Aromas of banana, clove, and alcohol. Oaky fruit flavor finished with a lemon tang and a rummish burn. Less robust and more medicinal the second time i had this one. marchcow (485), Coralville, Iowa, USA Oct 22, 2006 On tap. Fruity aroma and deep amber color. Taste was malty with notes of rasin and carmel. Sweetly balanced. Not too strong and very drinkable. After going through an 8 glass sampler this is the one I ordered a full glass of. RAYBOY01 (1622), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 7, 2006 Autumn Brew Review ’05: Mahogany pour with thick rich tan head. Abbey-type beer aged in oak. Very sweet and fruity...almost like caramelized pears, plums, and dates. Approaching the too-sweet border for me...almost, but not quite cloying. The oakiness seems to intrude somewhat. Not their best offering at this years festival.
