(on tap at Town Hall, special Anniversary Week release) Pours a very murky orange color with a thin white head. The aroma doesn’t indicate barrel aging initially, but there are some scents of light citrus (orange), strawberry, grass, and pine. Furthering warming does reveal a bit of the barrel, and the aroma turns more herbal and earthy. Everything here seems dull. Towards the end of drinking this it smells cheesy, which was unexpected. The flavor has some cut grass, caramel, strong grapefruit peel, resin, and just a brief split second hit of juicy hop character that doesn’t stick around long enough. The finish has an overpowering grapefruit peel bitterness coupled with wood, which leads to a very dry finish. Mouthfeel was full with smooth carbonation. An ok beer, but I think all the barrel did here was dull the aroma, kill the juicy hop character, and create an overly dry finish.
