Just an amazing aroma of red wine, oak, vanilla, brown sugar, raisins, figs, light chocolate, pancake batter, and baked bread. The four years of aging must have tamed the alcohol because I am not picking any of it up throughout consumption. The flavor is just as great as the aroma, with a lot of dark fruit, such as raisins, figs, and prunes, with red vines licorice, bread, red wine, and cherry present as well. There’s also a bit of oak, bread, and salt on the finish as well. The mouthfeel is full and the carbonation is just a bit high. Being biased towards wine-barrel aged beers, this rating might be inflated, but wow was this a great beer, and it’s just a superb integration of barrel and beer. Well done Town Hall.

Fairly weak aroma: a hint of sweet malt and some oak. Sweet flavor of malt, caramel and used oak. Hides the alcohol well. Nice rich texture on the palate. Finishes sweet with notes of alcohol. My glass smelled stronger than badgerben and akevitts, prompting us to wonder what the heck was going on.. Oaked body with a mix of biscuit and light oak half way between brandy and an exceptionally light bouron (think eagle rare). hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Brown color with an off white head that was pretty thin. Not much of an aroma. Thick creamy mouth feel, seems very carbonated. There isn’t a whole lot of quad like flavor, there is some chocolate like flavors. A tingling fruit character that is followed up with an alcohol bite. Interesting flavors from the barrel are present but aren’t pronounced and take a back seat to everythng else that is going on. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Dark murky copper color with a thin head. Weak aroma of sweet malts, caramel and oak. The flavor is a killer mix of caramel and chocolate malts with brandy oak. Definitely sweet, but not so much it turns to candy. Very nice.
