jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Dec 22, 2006 Tap on 10/28/05. Golden rose color with a diminished white head. Wonderful alcohol, whisky, and cherry aroma and flavors. Dry with cinnamon and clove spices. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Apr 22, 2006 The aromas on the were a sweet blend of orange liquor and mulling spices but I think this had gone a little flat as the flavors were a bit muddled. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Nov 13, 2005 Dark Amber Coloring with Offwhite Head. Roasted Coconut Aroma. Strong Enough in Mouthfeel to Have a Syrapy Texture to it. Fruity, Warming, Sweet...Candy Sugar. Overall a Strong, Sweet and Seductive Grand Cru. The Barrell Does Wonderful Things with This Brew. Perhaps the Best Brew of Anniversary Week. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2005 Beautiful aroma. Through the smelling and drinking I experienced notes of raisin, plum, sake, lemon, celery, licorice, anise, and perhaps a touch of bourbon (I don’t think it’s the aging that gives me this note), and the alcohol was well under control. Smooth but somewhat tingling with carbonation, almost sharp. Clear amber, some clinging head, off-white in color. Really good, though the palate let it down just a bit. (on tap at brewpub) ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 30, 2005 8th anniversary release. Sweet, tropical fruit (passion fruit) nots in the nose. Lovely, unique. Amber body with no visible carbonation. Nice lace. Sophisticated and elegant. Passion fruit comes through in the flavor. Strong alcohol profile that is not hidden at all. Some banana. A very solid brew. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 29, 2005 Not what it might have been, but still a very good beer. Light brown color and nearly still. Some cherry in the aroma, along with light malt. Strange flavor that can only be described as lemongrass, more sweet malt, some Belgian yeast and a little sourness at the end. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Oct 29, 2005 Town Hall 8th Anniversary, Saturday release: Dark copper color with no head. Strong aroma of candi sugar. Holy crikey... the flavors just roll out of the glass. Vanilla from the barrel and though I didn’t notice the honey, something similar and it struck me as Calvados. More sugar and sweet malt with an orange finish. Alcohol was apparent, but not overpowering. I think this stole the show for the Anniversary week.
