bsp77 (191), Minnesota, USA Nov 2, 2009 On tap, poured into Pint Glass.
Black and opaque. Virtually no head or lacing, even when I try to shake it up. Looks thin.
Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, licorice.
Roasty sweetness, nutty flavor, slight bitterness at end.
Slick feel, low carbonation. Medium bodied but a little thinner than hoped for.
Decent stout overall, but there are many others I would rather choose.
TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA Sep 20, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown-black with long-lasting foamy tan head. Aroma is roasted grains, molasses, and a touch of toffee. Flavor is roasted grains/coffee, molasses, a hint of chocolate and a hint of raisin that works well. Searched in vein for the vanilla notes alluded to in the description and never found them. Palate is weirdly thin and tingly, not what I would have expected from this style, but that wasn’t enough to detract from the overall experience. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 2, 2009 pint at brewery - Aroma is roasted chocolate malts and oats with a smokey coffee finish. Flavor matches. Palate is creamy and ashy. I like the smokey finish on this tasty brew easy drinking brew. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Aug 30, 2009 Opaque 95% black color. Runny, deep tan colored head. Toasty, almost burnt, barley malt aroma. Sweet, chocolately, creamy, stout flavor. Creamy, and smooth, but not too thick, so as to weigh one down too much. Warms, a little bit from the inside out, even at only 6.2%. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Aug 7, 2009 Got a taster of this at the DDG release party. Dark dark brown with tan head. Cocoa, roasted malt, and coffee on the nose. Taste is same. Smooth. Thanks BMan for sharing. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 6, 2009 JW77 with another great beer he brought to Cigar City. This one was really delicious. Almost a black pour with a rich tan head. Chocolate, coffee and some light molasses on the nose. Flavor is roasted and very smooth(oatmeal)...creamy as hell. Chocolate and coffee. Very good. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2009 Growler, courtesy JW77. The pour yields a dark chocolate brown body with a small, foamy, light brown head. Patchy sheets of lacing cling to the glass. The nose is simple but well executed, notes of bittersweet chocolate, burnt caramel, and coffee all smoothed and drawn together by roasted oats. Flavors are largely the same, displaying a nice balance between the same sweet points in the chocolate-caramel profile, and the roastiness of the coffee with the earthen hops. The creamy oats are the glue that binds everything together and keeps things smooth. Medium bodied and silky, the palate is balanced but lacking a bit in substance. Overall, a fine, tasty, sessionable stout. Good stuff. danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA Jul 28, 2009 Sampled courtesy of BMan1113VR at Christmas in July, Thank you! Pours a deeper brown black. Nice roasted malt on top of baker’s chocolate with some caramel hints. Real nice!
