Commercial Description:
This is our strongest, darkest and most heavy regular offering. It is virtually black in color and features rich roasted malt flavor with a delicate caramel and vanilla finish. It is carbonated and served with the use of nitrogen gas, giving the Black Water a beautiful cascading pour and thick, creamy foam atop your glass. Made with only the freshest American malts and English hops.

Rich dark nearly opaque brown pour with a thin, whispy light tan head. Aroma is malty, roasty and sweet with a touch of dry hoppiness. Has a caramel dark chocolate flavor with lots of cinnamon and nutmeg spice and some coffee mocha in the finish. Smooth, interesting and complex, an enjoyable brew.

Opaque. Nose full of molasses. Molasses carries over into the flavor, but it’s a bit cloyingly sweet, like it’s flavored with dark corn syrup or something (which I know it’s not, but still . . .).

Black body, beige/brown head standing throughout consumption. Aroma of light caramel. Not too dark. Smooth palate, slightly biting hop yet clean finish. I will try this again for sure.

DC gathering. This one had made a long journey by growler, but didn’t seem to have suffered too much on the trip. It had a typical big coffee aroma, which carried through on to the palate. Some bitter chocolate too and, despite the "sweet stout" tag, I found it quite dry. Lots of fruity accents. Not the biggest stout, but pretty respectable.

Pitch black body with a dense light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee & bitter burnt scents. Medium-bodied; Very nutty taste with good roasted malt flavours. Aftertaste shows more bitter tastes and more coffee flavours. Overall, not great-too much nuttiness for an oatmeal in my opinion. Many thanks to hopscotch for bringing this beer! I sampled from this growler at the November RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2004.

very dark black color with a tan head, Nice aroma, surprised by how strong the carmel flavor was, pretty good overall beer, I liked the mocha porter better, but this may have been a close second

Had this at the DC/MD/VA/WV/PA gathering. Growler courtesy of hopscotch.Dark brown to near black. Nice roasted notes, dark chocolate, light coffee, some hints of alcohol and cocoa. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, alcohol, and dark fruit. Body is surprisingly bigger than expected and is almost chewy. Finishes with cocoa, chocolate and cofee, notes. Good beer!
