Appearance is dark black, with a bit a of deep red, and a very small tan head. Some nice lacing as I drink. The flavor is excellent - tons of coffee and dark chocolate up front with some round oat flavors following. Have to say though, I’m tasting the coffee more than anything else. Palate is decent, pretty thick and smooth, but not as creamy as what I would expect (Samuel Smiths) from an oatmeal stout. Overall a very good brew, even if it isn’t the best example of its style. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 21, 2008 On Tap at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery. Dark pour. Aroma of roasted malt and light burntness. Taste was of strong coffee, and a little chocolate towards the end. I didn’t get a lot of oat flavor in this one for some reason. Medium to light body. Seemed to have too much coffee flavor fpr style. May not buy again but was still pretty tasty. amishcaravan (237), Winona, Minnesota, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2008 On tap at the pub. They aren’t kidding when they say black H2O, that’s how it pours, with a nice white head. A nice roasted flavor, very malty, another great beer from my favorite brewpub. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 15, 2008 The color was a good dark black with limited color distortion when tipped or held to the light. The head was exceptional as per a nirtro drop would do. A crisp tan color with a creaminess to it. The smell is sweet with a candy liquorish fragrance to it. Stronger roasted and some light plums are noticeable too. The taste has a nitro twist to it. Makes a creamy taste but also dampens the taste down. The malt has a stronger oatmeal and roasted mixed with black patent taste. More of a chocolate quality then say coffee. A hinted lactose flavor is noticed as well but it’s very subtle. Not quite milk but maybe influenced by the nitro. The hop is minor but limited earthy tastes support the strong oatmeal malt taste. The beer was full bodied with good carbonation. A good taste that is sweeter then most oatmeal stouts. Overall I’m not a fan of nitro but I think it gave more of a smoother and creamer taste, but also limits the malty flavor. badbeer (433), Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2007 This was a decent beer and I would drink it again, I do enjoy Oatmeal Stout, however, this one did nothing to make me go wow. The smell started me off nice but the taste was not as impressive. There is the taste of roasted grains and caramel. This beer is filling and enjoyable, but don’t expect to be swept off of your feet. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA
