Commercial Description:
This is our strongest, darkest and most heavy regular offering. It is virtually black in color and features rich roasted malt flavor with a delicate caramel and vanilla finish. It is carbonated and served with the use of nitrogen gas, giving the Black Water a beautiful cascading pour and thick, creamy foam atop your glass. Made with only the freshest American malts and English hops.

On tap at Town Hall

This was the second to last sample. It was also a fitting end to the night. While it is not the best sweet stout I have ever tasted it certainly compares favorably in many aspects. Whenever I make a return trip this is sure to be on the list of taps to ask about.

Aroma / Appearance - The body was midnight black with a tan head about a half-finger high. Dirty lacing stuck to the sides of the glass. Despite not having the right glassware, I still picked up a nice bouquet of oatmeal, strong black coffee, vanilla, mocha and some smokiness. Overall it was a very inviting aroma and close to perfect.

Flavor / Palate - Hazelnuts, caramel, oats and roasted expresso dominate the first sip. The mouthfeel is creamy and dense leaving behind a malty aftertaste. I am then reminded of a slice of hot apple pie with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream on top. This is an extremely well done very balanced stout.

Draught at the brewpub. Opaque black with khaki head that laced the glass. Roasted malt and anise aroma. Roasty on the tongue with chocolate and light toffee flavors. Full bodied and smooth mouth fell.

Never liked this brew, especially served on nitrogen. On cask it fares a little better but all the flavors, excepting the chocolate, taste a bit overripe, like burnt coffee and corked red wine.

On tap. Molasses aroma. Dark brown opaque. Malty, chocolaty flavors. Sweet and light for a stout. Creamy mouthfeel. Good.

Tap at brewpub:Black with yellowish brown head. The aroma is burnt malts and the taste is sweet, almost a little cough syrup like. The feel is the classic thin slick feel of the oatmeal stouts. This one is really good.

Served on tap - nitro (16oz glass, $3.75) at the Town Hall Brewery Minneapolis, Mn. Pours with one finger tan head that goes slowly leaving a good lace. Black color. Light carbonation and full bodied. Hints of coffee and smoky nose. Starts balanced and very smooth, finish has some roasted/burnt coffee flavor. The ABV is 6.0%.

on tap at town hall brewery. Almost black with a dark tan head. Very thin compared to other oatmeal stouts I have had. Just not much taste. Didn’t offend though.
