incutrav (497), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Mar 10, 2008 Pretty tasty stuff. The mango addition really adds a nice degree of fruitiness and sweetness, along with the already present grapefruit. Not quite as hoppy as the standard MM, but still a good bite. To bad they only do one keg at a time of this.... Pigfoot (2224), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 25, 2007 Hazed, deep amber hue, good, lasting white head, if small.
Aroma is ripe and green, bristly, piney, and sweet. Grapefruit meets papaya bristly and burry, but smooth. Remarkably complex and delightful,,,hops aplenty meets juicy sweet fruity.
Taste: WOW! The mango has taken over and holds court in all areas of the palate, with that pleasing Mama hop profile lying just below. Bright, green, then slightly bitter...a bitter hop/sweet fruit tango.
Delicious stuff, this. Easy-drinking, and bursting with flavor. Medium bodied, lightly bitter finish. No wonder this blew out of the pub in a day or so (it was just one keg, I heard, though).
The fruit infusion madness at Town Hall continues apace, but this isn’t crazy, it’s all out genius. As if my favorite beer couldn’t get any better, here it is!
MIBRomeo (1883), Wisconsin, USA Oct 3, 2007 Copper color white head. Fruity aroma alcohols carmels & citrus. Palate is well coated and lightly oily. Flavor is a fruity and sweet ipa traditional bitterness from a grassy citrus hop but w/ a good carmel and offsetting mango fruitiness. Very nice. islay (401), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 22, 2007 16 oz. pour from the cask at the brewpub. Called “Mango IPA.” Tasted on 11-15-07. Wonderful, floral aroma features mango (What a surprise!), sugar candy, caramel, and citrus hops. Pours a hazy, opaque, deep burnt orange with a small amount of off-white head. The taste features sweet fruit and a dry, hoppy finish. The mango is obvious, creating an effect reminiscent of apricot nectar. This beer reminds me of an infused vodka. Medium to heavy body. Lively on the tongue, especially for a cask beer. Has the classic cask smoothness without suffering badly from undercarbonation (although, by its nature, it can’t help but be a little undercarbonated). I suspect that, like most beers, Mango IPA would be even better on tap. Better in aroma than but not as good in flavor as the regular Masala Mama. Stine (1318), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 3, 2008 Golden amber pour. Calm, floral mango aroma; the typical resinousness thrown aside. Hints of cotton candy, caramel, and bubblegum. Flavor is fully of candied almonds and tropical fruit rinds; mango glows brightly and unmistakeably throughout, but it seems to lean heavily toward a stem and vine plantiness at times. Raspberry seems to wink here and there; acerbic, even a little dark. Palate is crisp and refreshing and briskly carbonated; doughiness and full caramel malts bolster the finish sufficiently. Perky and interesting, offering a well restrained, well chosen fruit influence. Nice stuff.
