This was my final sample. I’m glad as it turned out to also be the best even though I did not get a chance to try the cask version (which is supposed to be even better). There is a very good reason that this is one of the highest ranked IPAs on the site. I still have to give the nod to a handful of others but this stacks up well against most everything. Make sure you finish off the night with this or you will regret it later.
Aroma / Appearance - A resiny pine nose is followed by toffee and butterscotch. When I close my eyes I am taken to a walk through a blue fir stand on a cool winter night. The body is an amber color with a head about one-finger high.
Flavor / Palate - Sharp resin and pine needles permeated the first sip. A strong bitterness comes next. Soon after a nice complex set of caramel, honey and maple syrup. The sweetness offsets the hoppiness well. On the whole this is extremely well balanced and easy to drink. If this was all that was on tap I would be happy to drink a few. waolsen (1224), Littleton, Colorado, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 20, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Clear orange color with sea foam white head that laced the glass. Enticing flowery/citrsuy hop aroma and flavor with a strong malty backbone and bold hop bitterness. There was also a cornucopia of subtle dried fruit flavors hidden in each sip. Very good IPA. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA

Lots of hops in the nose, hoppiness in the flavor, but all supported by a nice balance of malt. OldGrowth (1434), North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2006 Growler, from trade with Brewso. Great aroma, Sweet. Citrusy perfumey, mainly orange, little peach/apricot, a little cedary/peppery, honey. Hint of soap. Clean orangy red color. Big head, I did pour fast though, nice lacing. Bitter sweet flavor, but unlike aroma grapefruit & caramel become the most prevelent. Others are in the background. Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, bitter (kind of chaulky) finish. Tasty IPA. Glad to have had this one finally. Good to share with TURDFERGUSON & aceboxer. Thanks Brewso TURDFERGUSON (1608), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 8, 2006 From a growler shared with OldGrowth. Pour is dark amber with a medium sized head. Aroma was super-strange-atleast what I was smelling. The only thing I could place it as was ear wax, which is not the most apetizing smell. Luckily, the rest of the beer did not follow the mysterious aroma’s lead. Flavor had a great balance between fresh citrusy hops and a sweet malt backbone. Very enjoyable and quite refreshing. Thanks again, Tom!
