Thanks to tyroanderso for these growler. I am reviewing from notes as this was sent to me and consumed 4 months ago. The appearance is yellow slightly hazed with a good head that lingered around the entire time. The nose is that of slight pine, citrus, lemongrass. alot of the things you expect in a solid IPA. This beer has a lot of hype behind it and is rated on BA as the top IPA. It is well deserving of this. Although not as balanced as the alesmith IPA it is certainly damn good. The mouth feel. this hit with a tingle that starts out slow then emerges on the back end. Its almost like a light pale ale then when you finish the bite comes in so slightly. This is a beer that even the hop haters would love. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 01-23-2009 16:13:07

One of the best IPAs in one of the smallest brewerys I’ve been to, the Masala Mama IPA, always from the tap, has an extremely piney and grapefruit aroma with a perfect copper color. Nice and light on the palate and a load of hoppy goodness with perfect malted balance at the end. A terrific IPA.

Awesome beer, especially at under 6%. So much flavor, and certainly the best balance of any IPA ive had. Glad I could get a chance to try it, and one that is deserving of its reputation.

Growler thanks to BDR (thanks Brad!). Pours a clear amber with a thick white head. Aroma of grassy hops, a touch of citrus, and sweet malt. Flavor is similar--mostly malty with nice bitterness in the finish. Sturdy palate. Not as citrusy as I like my IPAs, but I can’t deny that this was a tasty one! 8/4/8/4/15 (3.9/5)

Growler. Apparently they know how to fill growlers over at Town Hall because this has a lovely, fluffy head all the way over here on Long Island. Aroma of tons of peaches, mangoes, generally tropical hops, along with floral, specifically pollen-y, notes, a touch of grass, and a touch of biscuit, increasing as it warms. Flavor is hugely bitter and retains its fruity tang. Just a touch too much grass toward the finish would be my only complaint. Bitter through and through. Medium bodied. Fantastic by any measure, and particularly impressive for 5.9%. Wow.

Growler via trade with tytoanderso - Pours a clear copper color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Still has a good bit of carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma is floral, citrus, and pine hops. Flavor has a good bit of the fore mentioned hops with just enough malt to make a beer. Fairly smooth finish. Medium body. A very nice IPA. I bet it’s even better the day it goes on tap. Thanks Ty.

Thanks to BgThang for sharing his growler. Poured a deep orangey color with a billowy 2 finger head. Incredible lacing on the glass. Smell: citrus hops, piney hops, caramel malt, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon. Taste: Well balanced slightly bitter. carmel notes. Mouthfeel: great mouthfeel. dry finish Drinkability: One of the most drinkable IPA’s out there. I could polish the whole growler off myself. Masala Mama deserves its place in the Best of BA. I wish it was available around here. Serving type: growler

TAP: at Town Hall, 1.30.09. Cloudy orange/red pour, with fruit, hop, and pine on the nose. Flavor is pine, citrus, and a big hop profile. I think this is a bit overrated (not on the same level as Two Hearted, etc.), but pretty good.
