kmpitz2 (21), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 10, 2005 I had this at a tasting I blindly stumbled upon over the labor day weekend. This was poured from half gallon growler into a wine tasting glass. The color was a nice rich amber with a very decent head and carb bubble. The nose was staggeringly good. The hops came through piney and earthy with a citrusy grapefruit background. I had to actually stop myself from smelling it to taste it. The flavor matched the nose very well. The piney hop took center stage, supported with a sweet grapefruit backdrop. The hop flavor didn’t linger, but instead, the aftertaste was sweet and mellow. This was a thick feeling beer, but just about where I wanted it for what it is. Unfortunately for me, I was actually dressed for and on my way to a wedding so I only had the one small sample glass, but I could easily have taken the growler with me and sat in the back of the church annointing myself with this most holy beverage. I am going to have to try and get a growler of this sometime.
JCB (1191), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 7, 2009 Growler from Tweety. Thanks, Paul! Man I have been wanting to try this for some time and it does not disappoint. A very big pour with a fine two-finger head that’s very creamy, sitting atop a lustrous bright orange with mild cloudiness. Nice sticky lacing and retention, a good sign, and a suprising one for an IPA with such a modest ABV. The nose is really fruity, with abundant bitter hops in there to be sure, but floral and inviting in a big way. The taste is far more bitter, resinous in certain places, in a way that complements the full bodied mouthfeel quite nicely, keeping it from being too chewy. Spice, a touch of mint, fruits coming back to close it out. Man, this stuff is great. DrHomolka (643), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 5, 2009
Growler from Tweety. Pours a bright orange/red color with a bunch of carbonation. A huge white head forms and lasts. Aroma shows earthy hops, herbal, dank, different. A little citrusy, floral. A bit of fusels noticed in the aroma that disappears after awhile. Brings to mind Dale’s Pale Ale. Taste is pretty bitter, dry and grainy, good hop flavor. Drinkable. This is good. Pretty unique but I don’t think it’s even close to one of the best IPAs I’ve had. dkachur (1205), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 30, 2008 Growler generously obtained for me by BDR. Split with cdumler
and Alraomon. And I’m grateful for this because currently my
only Minnesota rating is some crappy pale lager from trader
Joe’s. Pours an almost strawberry red color. Slightly hazy.
Large head shows great head retention and thick lacing. The
aroma is oily, resiny, piney, minty hops with earthy, brown
sugar notes. The taste us very earthy and very bitter resiny,
leafy hops, but balanced nicely by the malts. Medium bodied.
Very nice IPA. nbutler11 (391), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Dec 26, 2008 Pours a clear amber color from the tap at the brewery with a trim off-white head. Filtered, but leaves great lacing. Smells mildly of hops which build in flavor and become bitter in the taste. More like the rind of grapefruit rather than the fruit. Pine is also present. Nice, but not very complex. after4ever (2006), Brier, Washington, USA Dec 8, 2008 Growler. Thanks, BVC! Pours crystal clear burnished medium amber with a dense, pillowy tan head. Salty, earthy, tangy hop profile thats neither piney nor citrusy. Hard to place for sure, despite its being quite bold. Garlic? Earthy sub-continent spices? Interesting. Creamy medium body. Light carb. Sharp resiny bitterness at the end. Woody mid-palate. Absolutely delicious and completely sessionable. Words dont do it justice. Great little IPA.
