detroiter (957), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 14, 2007 Served at cellar temp in a Lucifer goblet, the beer is a clear deep copper with good effervescence, topped by nearly two inches of fluffy off white foam. Okay head retention and lacing. Both were really nice when the beer was first poured, but dwindled considerably later on. Perhaps I drink too slowly? Hah!
Biscuit malt and a pepper-spiced hoppyness in the aroma. The aroma is wonderful from the first sniff to the last sip. Exquisite.
The first taste was quite sweet up front - with caramel malt, honey, and candi sugar - something like a sweet, sweet tripel. The hops come through in the background, though still quite strong. The hops are not intense like an American IPA, but still they generously contribute to the flavor. They are not there merely for balance.
Further sipping, and the beer is much less intensely sweet. Now I taste honey and biscuit, a light pear-like fruitiness, and just a hint of candi sugar. The hops are quite flavorful as well, with tangy citrus (tangerine maybe?) and a hint of peppery spice.
The body is a bit north of medium, the carbonation on the milder side though definately not lacking. Alcohol is pleasantly noticeable.

robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Apr 23, 2007 Orange/Brown Color with white Ring. Light Hoppy Aroma. Quite Sweet Beginning...and Ends Bitterly, Czech Hops..Very Sweet Grainy Flavor...Hops Balance Out Sweetness Nicely.. Dry Belgian Yeasty and Hopped Ending. Very Nice IIPA. CaptainCougar (4624), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 21, 2007 Sampled from a growler on 11/8/06 courtesy of footbalm: Pours a transparent copper bronze with a frothy, nicely-lacing white head. Complex sweet Belgian malty aroma has good bready yeasty presence and spicy Saaz hoppy character. Body starts with a viscous sweet biscuity caramel maltiness and good complex Belgian yeastiness toward a more bitter crisp finish. A very unique and well done brew. zathrus13 (1058), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Jan 12, 2007 Pours deep gold, with a white head. Aroma is subtle, with fruit, yeast, and hops. Flavor is fruit, malt, hops, and sugar. As others have sadi, it seems more Belgain that a double IPA. Either way, it’s very good. Thanks to the hand bottling king, footbalm for this one.
