Poured from tap into pint glass. Very dark red that appears black with thin head and no lacing. Smoky aroma (obviously) - peat, vanilla and something I can’t quite identify. There is something off-putting but I am still intrigued so that counts for something. Smoke dominates to the point that I can’t really identify true malt or hop characteristics. Now, this is not necessarily bad, but there is a problem. Is it the peat? No, that is quite nice. Is it the wood and vanilla? No, that is quite nice as well. Is that band aids I taste? I believe so, and that is the problem, and is also what was off with the smell. Still tastes fairly good, but now I can’t get past band aids. Moderate carbonation, somewhat smooth but a little thin. Well, it is interesting, but I have had much better Smoked Porters. Glad I tried and I kind of enjoyed it, but I don’t want to have it again. However, I am wondering if the band aid taste is usually there, as others seems to love this beer.

Sampled at GABF 2009. Black pour. Aroma of smoked sausage. Interesting smoked turkey and smoked cheddar flavor. I would love to give this beer a better review as it really seems quite complex.

A dark brown beer with a slight red tint, as usual. good creamy, off-white head. burnt malt aroma. Tastes like whiskey, literally. good, oak, aged, charcoal mellowed taste. Unbelievable! Delicious smoky palate. Like Mesquite BBQ on the tongue, but then its a beer, at only 5.3%, that tastes like a cross between a single malt islay malt and a Texas brisket. Amen!

On tap at the GTMW. See thru brown with a quickly fading tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and smoke. Medium bodied porter with tasted of roasted malt, caramelized malt and smoke. Good but not great.

Brown pour thick tan head w/ nice lacing. Odd funk in the aroma hints of ash, a little odd almost peaty reminded me of a hit of scotch but not very appetising. Full well coated palate. Very smoky rich campfire taste some smoked salmon that was nice in the aftertaste. Not bad, but not my type.

Very Dark Brown with Sandy Head. Coffee Roasts and Smokey Notes with an Overall Burnt, Dry Aroma. Malty Beer All Around with a Dominant Flavor Profile of Smoke. Coffee Roast Notes Help Keep it in Check. Medium Bodied Porter. Overall a Very Solid Smoked Porter.

Pours a nearly black color, with a good inch of dark tan foam when it gets to the table. Very nice lacing throughout the pint. Throughout the second one too - heh! Definite smoke in the aroma, pleasant. Not Schlenkerla-like in the aroma department by any means, but still noticeably nice. With the first sip, the smoke came right through - mild but tasty. Subsequent sips revealed a very nice porter, lots of chocolate and coffee flavor, with a mild hop presence. More mild smoke in the aftertaste. Smooth beer - the body is not quite medium and softly carbonated. Good idea to release it on cask.
