Pours a hazed deep amber, topped by an inch of soft white foam. Good head retention and lacing. Sweet caramel malt is the first thing noticed in the aroma - then wham - you guessed it - lots of citrus hops! As with the aroma, the first sensation in the flavor is a thick caramel malt, just as a little bit of apple fruit character starts to sneak in, the hops take over the show. Bold, intense, powerful citrus and pine hops. Bitter in the finish, very biter in the lingering aftertaste - lending the impression that you just bit into an orange that was still green. Skin and all. Full body, smooth mouthfeel, ample carbonation. Potent stuff.

Tap: May ’06. Dark copper, with nice off-white head, lasts quite awhile, great lacing. Aroma has plenty of citrus and pine, no malt to be found. Flavor is all bittering hops and doesn’t seem like there is any other hop character at all. As it warms, malt come through for the first time. Reall harsh bittering aftertaste. Looks like it may have taken a bit of time for this beer to mesh.

Cue up the Patty Smyth (and Scandal?) song, or dialogue from the 1979 movie...it’s up to you... Malts are American and English, and ample enough to balance this blistering hoppiness...I heard 112 IBUS...might be true...? Tons of Warrior hops thrown into this...let’s crack the growler and check it out, eh? Hazed, bronzed appearance, solid, staying chalk-white head, leaving some lace. Very nice. Aroma is lovely, spankingly hoppy...yes, that’s my phrase now, I’ll copywrite it, "spankingly (c)"...bold, fruity, bitter, but not too much so...apples and dark fruits match citrus and pine...a delicious mix. Me likey. Drinking it, big, fat, blasting hops right on the tongue, but not too much...just enough. A...wait, I said "delicious mix"...so, it’s a "flavorful ferrago"?...(look it up, somewhere)...Appley, citrusy, melony, ...and the high alcohol content is well buried below the malt. Yum, I keep saying, yum, and yum, again. Sweetness from the malt, a sturdy bottom, with this tastiness dominating. By no means an overly hoppy ale, this is absolutely well-balanced, and quite worth the drinking. The more I drink, the more I wonder what could possibly be wrong with it. Nothing, is all I can come up with...I just love it and love it, despite the super-hoppiness. It’s delicious, as I already said...did I mention yummy, though? Actually, it gets better as I drink it...and I had four servings before I cam home to crack open this growler...I like it more, as I drink it. And it’s not just the booze talkin’! Good job again, Mr. Hoops!

on tap at town hall. A light copper color with just a bit of cloudyness. Nice hoppiness but not bitter in the end. This is a greatly balanced beer. My favorite double IPA so far. I love American Pale Ale’s, and this was more like one, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. Please brew this again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A cloudy orange beer. Very strong hop aroma and one of the most-heavily hopped beers I have ever tasted. The hopes are sweet and floral rather than bitter. Simple and good.
