Commercial Description:
Traditional Scottish ales are brewed with large amounts of base malt, generous use of roasted malt and very few hops. This deep ruby/brown ale is the king of Scottish ales. Offering huge malt flavor and little hop profile, deep caramel, toasted chocolate & and wine-like fruitiness are evident. While extremely sweet at first, the extended aging process results in a mellowing effect, thus producing a very strong complex ale that is smooth and drinkable.

Dark brown, with a light brown head. Aroma is malt, molasses, dark fruit, and some smoke. Flavor is smoked peat, dark fruit, malt, chocolate, and molasses. Thanks to footbalm for hand bottling this treat.

Chocolatey brown in color with some whiskey shaded tint at the bottom. Aroma is like a chocolate covered clementine with a bit of scotchy booze underneath. Tastes of apple peel, caramel, chardonnay-like bright fruits. Deeply warming and almost too smug with sweetness. But not quite.

Pours very dark brown with a tint of ruby. Very little head. Aroma is subdued but nice malt smell. Just a nice malty sweetness dominates the taste throughout. Nice indeed.

Growler- Aroma is of oak and dark fruit. Brown body with small ammount of head. I am a big fan of Scottish style beers and this offering does not dissapoint. In tasting this beer I get alot of peat, some caramel, and dark fruit. Keep up the good work Mike!

Tap at the brew pub. Rich murky brownish brew with a ring of fine bubbles. Nose is heavy, hehehehe, with what almost seems like peat moss that is very close to a date plantation. A very nice brew indeed.Oh no, not a ort-like finish. Shit.

On tap at the brewery. Nice for TH to bring this special brew back. Brown body and thin off white ring of head. Aromas are oak, molasses, dark fruit, peat. This is very good. Lives up to the hype it’s received. Normally I’m not a huge fan of scotch ales, but this one is exceptional for the style. Someday, I will have to get my hands on the Alesmith version, to see how that stacks up.

GABF 2006 - just getting around to post. I actually poured this at the festival, and tasted quite a bit of it. Interesting Wee Heavy - very oaky, almost whisky aroma and taste.

Dark Red/Brown Coloring with Small Head. Subtle Malty Aroma. Had First on Tap at Town Hall and Also Tried From a Growler at Wawood’s Holiday Extravaganza....the Growler Was SO Much More Enjoyable.. Rich Malt and Raisin/Prune Notes..Wonderfully Balanced and Rich with a Nice Warming Effect. Strong, Sturdy and Very Likeable. A Winter Warmer That Makes You Wish You Could Skip Over the Other Three Seasons.
