Commercial Description:
Next up, we present Scratch Beer #11-2008, a Bitter. We used to brew a little number called Tröegs ESB. Even though this beer was retired almost six years ago, we still get numerous Tröegs old-schoolers begging for its return.

Well hang onto your boot straps because Scratch #11 is about as close as we can get to the original ESB without firing up the old brew kettle. The Scratch #11 recipe originates from Chris’ stint at England’s University of Sunderland brewing program. After returning to Colorado the brothers drew on Chris’ experience and brewed pilot batches tweaking that recipe. The ESB production recipe has direct bloodlines to these pilot batches.

Bottle: pours a dark copper color with a thin white head, aroma has some hops and citrus, taste is slightly bitter and a little buttery, fairly thin mouthfeel, with just a little bit of a bitter finish.

12oz bottle via trade with Ogglethorp. Thanks Brian! Pours a translucent dark orangey brown with a foamy, lacing slightly off white head. Very pleasant aroma with floral hop buds, crackers, spice, grass and a little bit of barley. Flavor is just as good with plenty of orange, biscuits, crackers, flowers and a touch of pine. Finish is sweet and clean. This would be a great session beer as it’s really well balanced. I enjoyed this a lot, they could make this a year round beer and I bet it would sell.

Thanks to a couple of BA’s for this one Bottle poured into a pint glass produced a good finger worth of whit fluffy head. The body of this beer was amber to dark copper in color Typical Biscuit yeast and light hops on the nose of this brew Light piney hop bite with smooth malts sweetness hit my taste buds. Medium mouthfeel good carbonation on your tongue Great drinking brew glad I had it would love to try it with fish and chips for the full effect. Thanks again Guys

12 oz bottle from Capones. Pours a clear red with an average to slightly above average size bubbly off white head. Aroma of very sweet malt, toffee and bread. Medium body that is an easy sipper. Flavor has a slight syrupy sweetness undertone with a concentration on the malts that is finished with some nice floral hops. Sort of reminds me of a Bit O’ Honey candy bar from back in the day, well if it was made into a muffin. Good stuff.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of toasted malts, piney hops, resin, caramel, and cream. Poured dark orange/light brown in color with a medium-sized, creamy, rocky, off-white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is a little sweet and a little bitter. Tastes of piney hops, toasted malts, and caramel. Medium body. Slightly sticky texture is also a bit thin. Soft to average carbonation. Creamy toasted malt finish.

Bottle courtesy of Dr. Jay. Pours a golden yellow with a bit of white head, and leaving a bit of white lace. Mild English hops in aroma. Very smooth drinking, sessionable, and leaving a bit dry palate. A very good ESB. My be aye 3k.
