BeerZack (116), Austin, Texas, USA May 4, 2008 Medium brown, fairly clear and light penetrable. Small thin ring of white foam.
Sweet and rich malt smells. Very nutty (roasted almond, pecan) with some caramel.
Rich almond and toffee notes, some bitter cocoa or slight espresso maybe. Not as sweet as the nose implies, some dryness and alcohol present. Warmingly alcoholic.
Fairly strong carbonation, medium heavy mouthfeel. Pretty drinkable.
KornDogg (31), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 12, 2008 finally am rating this beer...Dark amber with thin head... hints of caramel and a touch of hops along with the malt give it an overall great balance.. a solid bock TheOrange (353), Kent, Ohio, USA Oct 6, 2008 Finally available in my home town. The pour is a nice dark amber, the head is a small ring of bubbles lacing the top of the glass. The aroma is citrusy malts. The flavor is true to the aroma, the hops a touch more flowers than in the aroma. A very enjoyable beer. joshwilfong (537), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 dark brown with little head. obviously strong malt tones with a lot of crystal presesnt, maybe even some chocolate. some hop balance, but nothing really stands out. a solid version of the style that is not done enough by american breweries pineypower (892), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Sep 29, 2008 Cant’ believe I never bothered to rate this one. pours out a moderate to dark brownish color with some orange tones. Small, thin head with a caramel, dark fruit aroma. Taste is of light chocolate, caramel, toffee, slight fruit with a slightly boozy finish. Solid riversideAK (1649), Shoreline, Washington, USA Sep 29, 2008 Bottle from a forgotten source. Pours a dark auburn color with a thin non lasting head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, toffee, and ripe/over ripe dark fruits. Flavors are very similar. More chocolate an dark fruits dominate. Sweetness is medium to strong, yet it is never cloying or overpowering. Clean finish for how much is going on. A good beer in a style that is not my favorite.
